Hurricane Helene
I hope everyone is okay with the aftermath of this Storm.
A member text me this evening (Louisvillekytruck ) and I continued the chain. I hope Josh and Liz are, okay? I texted (member) 3767 and he is surviving like it was the 1930's. He has his food and stuff in coolers because of power outage. He is Using the grill and taking care of business. Hope the Best for Everyone dealing with this Storm.

Re: Hurricane Helene
Death toll is about 40 so far among several states. Bad news, another system is brewing for next week in the same area.

Re: Hurricane Helene
I have 2 aunts that got hit pretty bad with storm surge in Ruskin FL. had roughly 8 inches of water in the house. they are going to stay with another family member further south in FL until damages can be assessed better once the water goes down.

Re: Hurricane Helene
A buddy a few short miles from me sent this photo this morning. It parked over us for about 30 hours and rained and rained before heading NE. No flooding around us that I could see, but may have been in some local places.

Re: Hurricane Helene
I am an hour north of Tampa. And probably 15 or so miles inland. It was originally forecasted to be going right over my area. Looking at all the flooding and damage from the storm. I feel very lucky that it changed paths.
Been watching a bunch of YouTube videos today and it is unbelievable the amount of destruction in Tennessee and South Carolina. Not far for me is cedar key and a lot of it looks flattened. A big section of i40 is completely washed away. Sadly, I think some will never recover from the storm. I do hope all those affected by the storm are safe.

Re: Hurricane Helene
A childhood buddy of mine had 5' in his house on Treasure Island. All the toys were moved inland and are ok. He had to take a boat out to the island to survay the damage. I wonder if the Diesel Genset as a float or check valve to keep the seawater out of the fuel, air and oil. The generator? clean or throw away?? The pool is full of crap. He did not say how his boats did. One was trailerable. Just a short email from him.

Re: Hurricane Helene
Western NC and parts of upper East TN are experiencing apocalyptic devastation.
At least 1000 or more people are missing or unaccounted for, entire towns have been wiped off the maps and millions are without electricity and water. Please pray for these folks and help out if you can. We are preparing a local team and loading supplies to head out later this week.

Re: Hurricane Helene
We are fine here, the closest major damage was in Newport, about an hour and a half east of my location and Erwin TN about 3 hrs away.
East of there, in upper ET and over into NC is the worst of it. The mountains often protect us here, in the valley on this side, from bad weather events. All the dams are spilling at record levels. Ft Loudon Dam, just 3 miles from me, is spilling half a million gallons per second on the Tennesse River system.

Re: Hurricane Helene
This is terrible! I'm hoping the rest of the hurricanes (if any) aren't this powerful.

Re: Hurricane Helene
Im not a news watcher anymore but since so many board members are affected by this I did catch up on the hurricane news. So tragic and devastating, people think they are prepared and mother nature rears an ugly head.

Re: Hurricane Helene
Over the weekend, the army national guard has been flying choppers into the Asheville area to get people out. There have been food drops and also mobile food pantry’s set up to get people needed supplies. I40 is expected to take up to a year to repair. At this point, I can’t even imagine how long it will take to rebuild the NC mountain area and I’m sure the Tennessee side feels the same. The hotels here are mostly booked with folks from the mountains and Florida. Food is becoming an issue as the shelves are drained about as fast as u can get it put out. The usual staples like bread and milk are (almost ) empty. The water levels in some places I’ve seen have gone down. Not back to normal but the fear that several dams will break isn’t an issue now. Lake Norman which sits on the Catawba river has boats and the docks floating out in the lake or wedged against a bridge. I gotta say, that’s a different sight to see. Power is coming back on as the crews get trees and debris removed for the lineman to hook new lines and poles back up. A lot of roads are still blocked and there is no school at the moment. Remote learning would take place but the internet service that’s needed is down in some places. As I type this the power is back on. The road that I live on can now be used fully instead of partial. Slowly we will get back in rhythm. Thank you to anyone and everyone who took time to think about all the people that call western NC and eastern Tennessee home.

There is a Guy I went to school with that is loading a Tractor Trailer full of supplies heading to NC and East TN. I am sure he will send more than one trailer full. I seen this one FB today and will go donate to the Trailer.

I think Andy is on the coast side of the state so maybe he was spared the hard weather.
