anyone have a source to buy this part, mine is hammered after 40 years of service....
Would like to buy new but, doubt it

The brake springs rest in this area, and i guess there is alot of rubbing

It is called a backing plate and if I were you, I would use what you have.

I am not sure if you can by them new and used ones usually come with the rear end assembly from a salvage yard.

To replace it, you will have to pull the rear end cover and remove the axle shaft(s).

I would take a wire wheel or brush to it and clean it as good as you can/ The should be six pads (three front and three rear) for the shoes to ride against. Make sure the pads are clean and no grooved. If they are grooved, you can weld the groove in and file them flat again. If the groove is not deep, just file them. Make sure you apply a good brake grease on the pads before you replace the shoes and you should be OK.

I am sure someone will chim in with a source for them.

Sorry t bone, guess i was not clear in my description, looking for the octagon bolt that the brake shoes and springs rest on

Oh, I see. I am not sure if that is available new. Check an LMC catalog. They list a lot of odd ball items.

I've purchased countless bolts for my truck, by taking the old one to Lowes and using their display to screw it in to determine the thread size, and then buying stainless where possible right from them

Looking at your photo again, I would just clean that area up and put some brake grease on it. There is not as much movement of the springs as you might think.

I'll second that. Just clean it up and it will be good. Actually it will be OK if you don't clean it at all but it will look a lot better.

Naval Jelly or any other rust removing product will speed up the cleaning.
