What’s this garbage in my float bowls?

Took my edelbrock carb apart tonight to fill the bowls with fuel and to my surprise I found a nice pile of crud in both bowls. Truck was running fine before I pulled the engine, but I’m wondering if this is a sign that my tank is starting to rust. The junk was kind of a rust colored powder that wiped away easily. There was about a tablespoon in each bowl.
Everything fuel related was brand new last year except for the tank, which is original. I have a Russell in line fuel filter right before the carb and there was nothing in the screen. Any ideas where this crap came from?

Its rust just so fine it goes threw the filter. Whats the micron rating of your filter?

Re: What’s this garbage in my float bowls?

I had the same crud in my edelbrock just cleaned it out last week. I had not nearly the amount in both bowls, just the passenger side. I also noted that I did not have any aluminum corrosion either. I drive my truck everyday. Standard cheapo fuel filters and my tank is fairly clean.

10 years I have not had that much in mine. Time to check the tank I would say, just a turn of the lock ring and you get great visibility in there...

What is the micron rating of your filter? I run a 140 micron before my fuel pump (electric) and a 40 micron just before the carb. You should be able to go as low as a 10 micron just before the carb without any issues.
