Lock up switch idea

Presently in the last stages of a Powerglide to 200-4R conversion and had an idea regarding a lock up switch. I remember my old Dodge Dakota had the overdrive switch on the end of the shifter arm. Electrically this is easy if a momentary contact switch is used with a relay. But what about mechanically? Has anyone ever attempted such a hybrid of part combinations?
