Vent window sealing tape??

I replaced the glass in both vent windows. I already installed the new rubber gaskets (and those tiny rivets). The <sticky?> black stuff that went between the glass and the window frame was rotted and fell to pieces. I'm looking for a suggestion for a replacement I can pick up at a hardware store.

I found that Chevy Duty carries something called 'vent window cork/rubber tape' just for this application, but I don't want to spend the $1.95 and then another couple of $$$ for shipping, and then wait a week, if this is something I can get locally.

Thanks,

Talking

Have you checked with your local glass shop? They should have it
in stock.

The shop by me replaced the seals in both windows for $10.

When I replaced my vent seals I ran into this same problem when it came time to put the glass back into the frame. I just stopped by one of our local glass shops and was able to get enough of the material to do both the vent windows and the side windows for under a dollar.

71-longbed,

The rivets are used to hold the vertical division bar vent seals, main vent window frame, glass frame hinge plate, and associated hardware in place. I couldn't find a replacement for the vent window hinge rivet or "pin", so I left it alone. I had to drill out all of the rivets with the exception of the vent window hinge rivet to replace the seals. I was able to find replacement rivets for the ones that I drilled out that were similar in size and appearance at my local auto parts store. I did have to remove the entire vent window assembly [illistration #1] from the door to accomplish the task.
"the vent seals i have now seem fine ...do you think i can remove the vent window without changing these?" -71longbed Do you mean the vent window seal between the glass frame & main vent window frame [illistration #8], or the rubber cork gasket material that goes between the glass & the glass frame [illistration #3]? I hope attached the pic makes it thru.

Josh

71-longbed,
Overall the job wasn't too bad. Spent an afternoon changing out both sides. I've had my rivet gun for a long time, you should be able to pick one up at your local auto parts or hardware stores. Yes the one rivet I left in place was the one visible from the outside of the truck. I was able to pick up the rivets at SCHUCK's Auto store. Good luck!
