Re: Poll SWB OR SHORT STEP LONG WIDE OR LONG STEP
I chose the step. It really depends on what you are trying to go for though. If you are going for a smooth street rod with smooth lines you gotta go wide bed. But if you want a "hot rod" with a classic rough look you gotta go step.

i'm pretty sure you need one of each for different uses short looks cooler but long rides better and makes better work truck with exception of plowing

Re: Poll SWB OR SHORT STEP LONG WIDE OR LONG STEP
I use swb as short wheel base, are you using it as short WIDE? I call them fleet and step. Am I wrong? I have a SWB fleet 67 and have had a SWB stepside and either would be fine if anyone wants to donate one to me I'll take either! I do find myself more partial to the fleetside. As a rule I do not like longbeds, but I own two Burbs, so go figure.

Re: Poll SWB OR SHORT STEP LONG WIDE OR LONG STEP
always prefered lwb fleet, much more utilitarian, and my trucks will always be used as such....my preference for the fleet side may come from my fathers 55 cameo (chevy's first fleet side), but who knows.....I am 6'4" tall, and unless I plan on lifting the truck over 12" I don't see there being much in the bed that I can't reach.....and I always have the tire! works pretty well as a step when the need arises.

Re: Poll SWB OR SHORT STEP LONG WIDE OR LONG STEP
SWB really means short wheel base, lwb is long wheel base, either could be step or fleet.
Dosen't matter for the purposes of this question, just clarifying. I prefer Short Fleets myself

Like the fleets in both swb and lwb. But a sharp step is always a winner!!

Re: Poll SWB OR SHORT STEP LONG WIDE OR LONG STEP
I prefer short step
if it's a LWB, then it needs to be a fleet side IMO. I do like the long stepside...and even the 9 foot one ton step side, however, it is more of a freak value thing. |

I'll even go a step further and say how many hot rod long steps do you see driving around? I guess that makes yours truly even more oddball than krazy_texan but then, I always liked being different.

Swb fleets are not that common where I am in Southern California, at least not affordable. Basically if it runs and drives it is automatically worth 5-6k. I go to swap meets where there are 10 - 12 trucks and they range from junk to show and from 6k on up to 26k. I actually found mine right here on the site Mike |

Re: Poll SWB OR SHORT STEP LONG WIDE OR LONG STEP
I wouldn't own anything over 115" wheelbase except Burbans. Even then, I plan on making my Burb a 115" tahoe. I've owned a short step, but I prefer the short fleets. Blazers kick arse, but that's not a choice here.

Re: Poll SWB OR SHORT STEP LONG WIDE OR LONG STEP
I like them all. We bought a long step side a few years ago, changed out the bed to a fleetside bed and it looked a lot better. Thing is you can buy long wheel base step sides cheap and if the rest of the truck is clean why not!! (easier to change out beds than cabs or patching up cabs) I plan on building a SWB eventually. I like that long wheel bases ride better and haul more stuff. You actually see Long wheel bases fleetsides in magazines now. Way trucks are built now the regular cab, long wheel base truck should be on the endangerd species list.
