Explain what type of piston this is. What is the divot for?

Looks to be a dish-top piston, donno what the divot is there for though...

Is that stock?

I found this on summits site, but it is not as extreme.

A lot of pistons do have orientation notches in them , never seen one so extreme as the first pic. Interesting.
That is the piston that came out of my 4 bolt 72 donor 350.

I agree that it is a orintation mark for foward. I hve seen some excentric engine builder change this up and claim benifits in power on track. I not sure I beleive it. but the pin is off set in some pistons so there will be a difference if they are changed.
