94 steering wheel on a 84 column

I like the newer style steering wheels better and I know I have seen people put them on the square body trucks I just cant seem to find it. What all does it take to put the newer style steering wheel on? Do you have to do something special with the horn to get it to work?

Thanks, Matt

Re: 94 steering wheel on a 84 column

I would be interested in this info as well. I like the look of the newer wheels over the OEM monster steering wheels.

That's good to hear! My cousin is parting out his 94 and said I could have the steering wheel for free.

Re: 94 steering wheel on a 84 column

Here's a photo of the style I believe you're looking for, this is my truck. I paid $20 for the wheel at my local wrecker, and yes, it hooks up with no mods required.

Re: 94 steering wheel on a 84 column

So are there certain 88-94 wheels that are leather wrapped or are all of them the same?

Think I'm going to put one on my 83. The wheel stays sticky and leaves a nice black smear on my pant leg every time I drive the truck, no matter how much I scrub the wheel.

The 88-94 is slightly smaller in diameter too, correct?

Re: 94 steering wheel on a 84 column

I bought my truck with one of the leather wrapped ones on it. Personally I did not like it. It felt wrong for the era. So I went with a Vega GT wheel. Before and after shots.

Re: 94 steering wheel on a 84 column

I must be missing something. I have a wheel from a donor '93 Suburban that I want to put on my 1986 Sierra. I have the button and wire but do not see how to attach it to my steering column. I did not grab the horn slip ring. Can I make the horn work with my setup without the white ring? I attached a pic of my column below. Thanks for the help

Re: 94 steering wheel on a 84 column

you have to remove the steering wheel and attaching parts first. Then you will see where to hook up your new horn wire. You just are not far enough in yet.

CSHADES, thanks a million. I came home today, read your post and dropped the steering wheel right on. It's guys like you that makes this site as great as it is.

Re: 94 steering wheel on a 84 column

I put one of these wheels on my C10, it was from a base Astro van. Very comfortable wheel, comes in a couple variations and a dozen different horn buttons as well.
