Heater control knob removal - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

Is there an easy method in removing the two chrome knobs on the heater adjustment levers without destroying them? Your help will be much appreciated. Want to replace the plastic bezel.

My expierence has been to just pull them off. Sometimes they are glued on, and sometimes they are just pushed on. Even if you break them they aren't very much money. Maybe there is a trick to it, I dont know, I just pull and they come off. The unit on my truck was glued, I just bought a new GM heater control panel and it was not glued.

Yes, just pull them off. Be careful not to pull to the sides because those arms break very easily. While you're pulling, move up and down and that will help the knob to get by the ears on the arms. You may want to wrap the knobs with a small cloth or something as they can be marked easily by the pliers you use.

I agree with Phoenix - just pull. Sometimes I've used a gentle touch with a vice grip and a rag to get a good hold on them (once your fingers get sore

)
