shoulder belt question

what are you guys doing with the hole in these trucks if you dont have a shoulder belt? I dont want to add belts there but if a cop sees the hole would he think I should have belts hooked to it?

Re: shoulder belt question

They have plugs that were used to cap off the holes if you didn't have the dealer installed belts. A cop cannot give you a ticket for it because they were not mandatory back then. Trevor

Re: shoulder belt question

Thats what I thought, i'm just about to start hiting the streets with my truck and its a looker so cops will be looking to. I just know some rookie cop is going to try and nab me on it and have me sitting on the side of the road in my truck without a/c in 100 degree temps debating it. I just want to be covered on my end. If they see those holes I want my canned reaponse ready I guess.

Re: shoulder belt question

Tell him to check his laws if you get stopped. That shoulder belts were not standard until 1973.

That if he wants to write you a ticket thats fine. But be prepared to show up in court.

He won't bother writing one.

Re: shoulder belt question

yep, shoulder belts were not mandatory until 76 or 77. They were still an option or dealer installed.

Re: shoulder belt question

I would suggest using the three point belts. Its your safety and life.

I can't imagine a face plant into the steering wheel feels all that great either...

Also, it will just avoid the hassle altogether. Cop sees a shoulder stap, there's a 100% chance you won't get pulled over for wearing it, whether they "know" it wasn't required or not

Re: shoulder belt question

67 Redneck, thanks for agreeing with me. I've got 3 pt belts in my 67 and a 57 Ford F-100 (gasp) that I always fasten. I think there's a reason the boys who drive real fast (nascar) use them.

Re: shoulder belt question

All good coments and I agree about the belts. Maybe I will add that to my final punchlist I have on my truck. Im guesing but OEM belts are pretty spendy and rare? I was missing the middle belt and got that from a board member here awhile back.

Re: shoulder belt question

If you get pulled over and he wants to write you a ticket, don't say anything, just accept it.

When you go to court and the ticket is dismissed, point at him and go "Ha Ha" like Nelson from the Simpsons.
