Re: Tremec Swap

Geeze Tom, I go from trying to buy a big block fan shroud off you to seeing what your Tremec swap looks like! LOL
Basically I want to see where your shifter is and if you have headers, how your clutch linkage sits. My truck currently has a small block in it with a Muncie M21. The problem is that I think I might have to move the motor mounts to the forward position to clear the firewall with the valve covers on the 454 and I don't know what that will do to the clutch linkage and the headers. I also want to swap out the original bell housing with the mounts to a traditional aluminum one without the mounts

One more...
Oh... also, the engine is in the stock position. I used tall fabricated valve covers that I trimmed alittle on the drivers side to clear the firewall.

Re: Tremec Swap

I have, but I used a McLeod hydraulic throwout bearing, so header clearance wasn't an issue.

Thanks for the pictures Tom, they're definitely helpful with my build. The only thing that's different about yours is the you have a tall hump and mine is the low hump. Your crossmemeber is also different and I'm going to use the factory bell housing and remove the rubber mounts.
I ordered the Tremec yesterday

-The tranny(TKO-600 w/.64 OD)
-Slip yoke(Not sure what position my engine is going to be in for the length of the driveshaft yet)
-Speedometer cable w/adapter
-Reverse light pigtail
-Crossmember(flush with the underside of the frame)
-Urethane tranny mount
-Hardware kit
-Hurst mid shift billet conversion installed(to keep the shifter handle away from the bench, like yours)

Looks like the headers clear the Z bar with plenty of room. Is the Z bar new on your truck? I might need a new one for my truck because someone butchered it to clear the headers on the small block that's in the truck now.
