My friends think I need more lift on my truck, and I think their right. I want to make it into a pavement queen since I started with a nice Perfectly rust free body 85 truck I paid 2200 bucks for with a bad tranny. I have a 4" lift on it right now and could go with a ORD shackle flip in the rear to get the extra 4" and then i'd have to get 8" springs for the front. I think an ORD flip would be perfectly alright with up to an 8" lift, but just wanted to make sure. Its gonna be awhile before I would do this if it ever gets done. Right now I still want to use it for towing and hauling some stuff, but with an 8" lift it would totally be a toy.

It is so much cheaper to what I did with front perch shackle off rear springs of a 74 blazer..

ORD is nice, but ever see them up close.. not to sturdy looking IMO..

if it's not going to be your hauling truck you should be fine. runing an 4" flip also would be an nicer ride than running full 8" rear springs.....

the shackle flip will be fine. people run them with way more lift than 8 in too. what drink2mny did is just as good and cheaper. or you could make your own shackle flip by cutting out the bottom of the rear hanger and remounting your shackle so it hangs down.

yeah you could do that. but talk about not looking sturdy for $180 for the pair you might as well do it right......

i wouldnt go more lift until you're ready to replace your 33s. my neighbor has a '86 K10 w/ 6" of lift, and 33 12.50s on 10s and it looks like @$$

and dont forget the the costs of lengthening the drive shafts and the steering.
have you compared costs with just buying a 8in lift kit from like superlift or skyjacker? i think when it is all added up, they would probably be pretty close.

I'm just thinking about put a 2" Body lift on it now, will probably wait till i'm ready to replace the tires though. Put a 2" body on and run 35s should work nicely, that will still allow my hitch to be low enough to tow but i'll get the ability to run bigger tires. Or of course I could just leave it at 4" for now and forget all about it. I realized 8" would just make the truck useless pretty much, it wouldn't be much good for anything but mudding then either.

i hate body lifts, just my opinion though. i just think they look goofy.. of course everyone thinks my truck looks goofy too so ohwell... do what your wallet can afford.

My truck has 8inch springs and 37s and I tow with it all the time. If its not towing a 26 foot weekend warrior to the dunes then its towing some dead truck home. Also haul alot with it to. I put 50 psi in my airbags and it tows fine.

What the hell kinda drop hitch you gotta have to tow with that thing? I have a 5 1/4" drop right now and its not enough, the only 6" drop I found was for a 1 1/4" shank ball and I couldn't find a 2" ball with that size shank.

how do you know what years will work? I ha ve a 72 lwb frame in the yard now. also how did you get the mounting position for the shackle? looks like you could have gone up another inch or so.

I have 2 hitchs. One is just a 12 inch drop with a 2 inch ball.....1 1/4 inch shank. The other is a adjustable drop with the stabilizer bars (for towing the weekend warrior) with a 2 5/16 ball and 1 1/4 inch shank. Let me know what you need.....Im hooked up direct with draw-tite.

I have a 5 1/4" drop right now, and was thinking about getting one of those adjustable ones, I actually flipped the axle on our utility trailer since it need a little more ground clearance anyway for up in the mountains.

But I still want to get an adjustable mount that will drop quite a bit, I think up to 7.5" will work fine, but not sure.

I know that '73-'74 blazer front perches of the rear springs work..Not sure what other years, never really looked..
As for placement I just butted mine right behind my tow hitch frame.. I could get you a measurement this weekend. I will be getting her out to our nearby ORV park for a fun mud day..
