Made myself laugh... After correcting the issue...

Ok, so I know that this wasnt the smartest thing I have ever done. But, I thought I would share as it is funny looking back on the situation.

Heaven was up on jackstands, all 4 wheels off and I needed to pull the rear axle to swap it out. Mind you she has no bed on her at the moment. I was working alone in the shop and the axle is a little heavy, but I came up with an ingenious plan to leave the rear trailing arms suspended from the frame by the springs and just take the rear axle out by sliding it off the back of the trailing arms... (This is where a little better attention to detail would have been a good thing)

Remember I said she was up on jackstands... Yeah, they were under the trailing arms, not the frame (Not that it would have mattered)...

So everything went well I picked up the rear axle one side at a time and sat it down on some of those wheel dollys that you would use to put under the wheels on your truck and move your truck around the shop. I thought dang this is going to be the easiest way to move the axle when I am done...

Then I noticed that the rear of my truck is no longer on the jackstands. It is hovering about 2 inches above them. I touched the frame and she sat back down, let go and she raised back up. I kind of did the freak out thing for a minute holding it down and trying to find something heavy enough to put on the frame and hold it down...

At the moment the truck has all for wheels and tires sitting on the rear of the frame "holding" it down.

Could have been a tragic disaster inside the shop... This is why I try to never get in a hurry! Thought you all might like to hear about my eventful weekend! LMAO

Oh the funny part was me trying to hold the frame down with one arm while attempting to find something "heavy" with the other! I'm sure it looked like something out of the three stooges!

Calm and cool went out the window when I envisioned my truck hitting the ground real hard, nose first! Lmao

Been there, done that, lowered the K-member engine/suspension and all out of a 98 Corvette. Lifted the car using a 2 post lift off the K-member, had to have one of my buddies sit in the engine bay to act as ballast for about 2 hours while we pulled that engine off the K-member, dropped the new one in and rolled it back under the car. When we first started to raise the car off the K-member, it tilted back and came about 2-3" off the front pads of the lift.

Ahhhhh yeah. I tend to know this. I quickly hooked the engine hoist to the front bumper brackets and lifted the front up till I could slap some weight on the back again.

No little girl noises...just a lot of adjectives!

if you had tried on purpose to balance that truck like that it would have probally taken half a day or longer to get it that way

Re: Made myself laugh... After correcting the issue...

I did the something like that. I put the jackstands too far back from the front of the truck so they would not in my way working on the hubs and spring bushings. I forgot that that diesil is way heavy. As I started to pull the wheels, I got the teeter totter. I froze foe a second, but realized the tires were going to just bump the pavement. No real problem yet. Had I been under the truck, I might have squeaked a little.

Extra jck stands were put under the front spring eye to hold it solid. And they were in the way!

Been there... or how about seeing a jackstand leaning over? Yikes!

It is now my standard practice to use 6 stands just because I don't trust 4 anymore.
