Quick PS Question

I am thinking of going to Power Steering on my 67. My frame appears to have the dimples already needed to install PS. I checked the vin and it is a 67 and was the 91,300 to come off the St Louis line so maybe they were already geared up for the 68 line. Can anybody shoot me straight on this issue? Is this frame ready to install PS without spacers or dimpling it?

Thanks,
Slider

Re: Quick PS Question

I don't call that "dimpled".
That looks like a stock 67 frame that requires the spacer kit.

The center of a P/S box is much larger than your manual box.
I suggest you try to bolt on a P/S box.
That will confirm any doubts.

Re: Quick PS Question

That frame is definitely NOT dimpled. It's one dimple and it's for the center of the box. The four bolt bosses are on all frames, the dimple is different.
I just put power steering on my 67. We put two washers on each bolt boss and the box is still touching a little. I have the spacing plate but haven't installed it yet.

Re: Quick PS Question

Here is a picture that I stole from another thread. The first one you can kind of see the dimple, the second you can definitely see it.

Re: Quick PS Question

I see now. Thanks guys. It really helps. I think I will try to pick up a used gear box. I will try to find one around 78 so hopefully I wont have to space it. But no biggie if I have to. Did you have to change the shaft too, or just modify the existing shaft?

Re: Quick PS Question

To clarify we used a 1978 box cause it matched my rag joint not cause it fit the frame.
There are a few different spline patterns on the rag joint so you might need to mix and match.
