My 84 lwb build

So a little behind this project I picked it up in the begining to use as parts for the 77 I was going to build. Found it on a forum my mom is on all the time guy was selling it because of a blown head gasket and he was moving and didnt want to haul it around. We decided to go look at it and when he opened the garage we were suprised at what we saw body looked great popped the hood and everything was there. When looking around under the hood my dad and I both noticed a busted heater hose and didnt really say anything offered the guy 600 bucks and took it home a few months ago we had a 350 in the garage so the head gasket wasnt a problem. On new years day we went to the shop dragged it in and started looking at checked the oil was only a 1/4 of a quart over full and no signs of water so we just decided to replace the heater hose and see what would happen(couldnt hurt it anymore if it was a bad head gasket right) put the hose on fill it with water dump some gas in the tank and charge the battery. After the battery was charged we spray some carb cleaned in it and it fires up didnt hear any noise from the motor and just let it run watchin the temp gauge temp climbs to around 210 and then drops back to about 180-190 check the oil no water found out all that was wrong with the truck was a bad heater hose. I was probably the happiest guy every after the past few years of failed projects so now this is my build thread.

what a steal. Great deal! i'll be watching.

Is the right rear wheel cyl. leaking or is it a stain from another car?

Re: My 84 lwb build

Glad to see you got pics of the ole seven seven up. I never noticed the air horns it has. I should be able to help with the 12 bolt swap next sunday.

Glad the motor worked out in the eight foe. Now just need to figure out what's keeping it from shifting out of first.

It's time for it to heat up around here. It's been coooooooold.

Re: My 84 lwb build

Thanks the 77 was a real nice truck when my dad built it back in the 80's. I wish I could find pics of when it was finished back then but all the years of sitting havent been good to her and it was just going to cost to much. So we will be using the good parts and building another truck so she wont be forgotten.

Re: My 84 lwb build

Kinda sad to see that old step side getting picked apart like that looks like it was going to be someones hot rod at some point.

Re: My 84 lwb build

It was my dads hot rod for a long time hes owned it most of its life then my cousin used it for a while and blew up the motor and my dad lost interest in it and started building his 55 chevy and I never had the money to do anything with it so it just rusted away pretty much.

Re: My 84 lwb build

So, Steveo forgot to mention that the transmission shifts now. It was a busted hose to the modulator.

That’s awesome Steve!

I am jealous of the deal you got. LOL

Can't wait to see what the truck looks like after a good wash and maybe a little buffing.
