New to board - '70 C10
Actually, I've been lurking in the shadows for quite a while. Finally got up the nerve to post! This is my project. My dad bought it from (I think) the original owner back in '81 or '82. It had been kind of a "father/son" project during my teenage years. Most of the work was done 25 years ago.
The truck sat pretty much garaged until dad passed away in 2001. It now resides in my driveway as it's too long to fit in my garage. I'm finally starting to work on it again and it's kind of becoming a semi-daily driver. By the way -- it still has the original 307, upgraded with Edelbrock performer intake topped by a Carter AFB, and a GM performance "mystery" cam (we threw the box away! I was a dumb kid at the time!) I hope you folks will help me out with a few problems I've been having. I'll start with one later when I get more time. Tim |

Welcome from Arkansas. Nice truck but if it were mine I would get rid of the burn me up air filter.

Re: New to board - '70 C10
welcome to the club.
As pointed out, that air filter is a fire waiting to happen. Remove it, and stick your nose in it and take a sniff... every time you hit the throttle (esp with the engine not running) a little bit of fuel spray comes up, and that foam filter soaks it up and retains it. All it takes is a small backfire and it can (and more likely than not, will) ignite. I learned this the hard way... with blistered paint. Otherwise... that is a VERY good looking truck. Will you be passing it on to your Jr? I like this photo... kinda iconic being it was a father/son project, and you can see the shadows of assumed father and son... be it you and your dad, or you and your Jr. |

Re: New to board - '70 C10
Jay and Longhorn Man --
Yes, I plan to replace the triangular "RamFlo" (did I mention it's 25 years old too? The foam is getting kind of funky anyway) with an oval air cleaner. I'm looking at the one from Billet specialties with the "heartbeat" logo on it. After reading the horror stories about these triangular filters, I assume I must have gotten lucky because the truck wasn't driven much over the past 15 years or so. Tim |

Re: New to board - '70 C10
welcome from Norman, OK --- very nice truck. It looks great -- the chrome wagon wheels give it a "period correct" look from the early 80's, which makes sense since thats when you said you worked on it a lot-- looks like a sweet, unmolested old rig

Welcome from Yukon Ok. Had the same fire problem with that air filter, I got lucky, and didn't damage anything, but the hood wouldn't open and I panicked a little, I was at Lowes with a bed full of lumber, at the loading area close to the store, hood finally opened and an employee found a fire extinguisher, saved the day.
