No more Square body for me..:(

So today.. My boss comes into work, and calls 5 or 6 people into the office.. I was thinking..Raise? Instead she lays us off! So I get into my truck to leave, but my truck takes forever to get into drive.. No big deal I was low on fluid so I added some.. I drive around the corner, and stop and my truck is very shaky. I hit the gas as the light turns green, Andy truck shakes as I'm shifting from first to second gear, and when my transcable tries to drop my trans down a gear.

No more transmission? And no money to fix it.. This is my only vehicle.

One door closes, another one opens. Hit the streets tomorrow and find another job. They are out there, you just have to look hard. Also check our Employment forum here.

Re: No more Square body for me..:(

that sucks man... when it rains it pours, i can tell you this from experience. last year in one week i blew the motor on my motorcycle on a tuesday, that friday the transmission on my car went out, car was totalled at the trans shop when they test drove it, then two months later i was involved in a moto accident that put me out of work for two and a half months, had to get another car cuz i couldnt drive stick shift with a foot in a cast lol the list goes on and on...

just keep your head up high, get that unemployment going asap and focus on the transportation, then get that job!!!

Re: No more Square body for me..:(

drop your tranny pan and change the filter it shouldnt be anymore then 30bucks and if you dont have that atleast take a look try and clean it ( no tips on how to do that) use the fluid that was already in it new fluid has detergants in it and will strip your clutch plates! sometimes thats all it takes.. my truck wouldnt shift till it was at full rev for 30 seconds then it would shift horrible and it took a minute to get into reverse.. new filter and she shifted like brand new.. its worth a shot.. sorry about your luck.. get out there and ull find something.. good luck buddy

Re: No more Square body for me..:(

If you were laid off because of lack of available work to do or downsizing(which seems to be happening alot lately), and you had a decent relationship with your employer, see if they'll at least float you a letter of recommendation. Another thing to look into if you need cash ASAP and want to work is to see if you have a Labor Ready office near you, check www.laborready.com the jobs you get will pay you cash at the end of the day, and you may find full time work through it.

What kind of Tranny is in your truck?

I googled Edgewood . You are not far at all from Tony Kee (member Texassquarebodies ). You might PM him to see if he has a trans and at what price . I know several people that have dealt with him and only have good things to say about him.
It will always get better .

Re: No more Square body for me..:(

Sorry to hear. I have had several days like that. One just after getting married where I was laid off and got rear ended the same day and was in therapy for the injuries for months for that one...

Good advice Frank. Tony is a stand up guy, and knows what its like to hit hard times. He would be a good source if you need a used transmission.

It's easy for us to say "Hang In There!", but that's what you have to do. Here's a short story for inspiration. LOL.

1986....I was hit with 2 blessings, one my then wife moved out and secondly I was laid off from my job. Within a few days of the job loss I was hired by my current employer, UPS. 3 years later I met my current wife and we've been married since 1990.

You can and will get through this but I agree the current economic conditions are tough on the job market.

Are you eligible for unemployment benefits? There's no shame in getting a little help. The shame comes when a person demands the help and refuses to go out and look for work.

Keep us updated!
