Speedometer/trans compatibility question

I have a '65 c10 with the stock speedometer and, I'm installing a TH400 trans. Will the speedo work correctly with the TH400?

Re: Speedometer/trans compatibility question

It should work ok. You might have to change the plastic drive gear in the transmission to make the speedometer accurate.

Thanks for the reply. What's involved with that and, where do I get the correct gear?

Re: Speedometer/trans compatibility question

First you should know how many miles per hours the speedometer is off. Then you need to know how many teeth are on the current gear (also color). On my truck, reduction of 2 teeth changed the speedometer by 5 mph.

Re: Speedometer/trans compatibility question

Remove speedometer drive from the tailshaft housing. Colored plastic gear slides out. Your local transmission shop should have gears

Re: Speedometer/trans compatibility question

should be the same as it's been with the old trans if not an overdrive you are removing. that is if it was right to begin with.
