Engine question 67 C10
Im getting ready to strip down my 67 to get all the parts I want to save, and sell and junk the rest.
I was told here on the board that the engine is a 283. Im curious how this was determined. Were they all 283's? Or does looking at the spid tell you? Ill post the spid. Thanks for any info. |

Re: Engine question 67 C10
My 67 Crewcab had a 283 in it when I got it and I think it was the original motor. Do you have the numbers from the back of the block?

Re: Engine question 67 C10
283 would be the base motor... with the 327 optional... so if it is original...
What does the truck look like? 67 CST trucks aren't easy to come by. The horn button alone is worth a bit of coin (one year only, low production numbers). |

Re: Engine question 67 C10
I realize I can get the numbers off the block and look em up. I was just thinking there was a way to tell from the spid.
I sold the buddy buckets at the swap meet a couple of years ago. I gave the horn button cheap to a board member. I sold the tailgate to a board member for what I think was a very good price. To be honest its still a very restorable truck. But I want a couple of things off of it for my panel. I think I might be able to get around 500 bucks for the engine trans combo. If its not worth that to someone local Ill just keep it. It even has the little over drive handle under the dash. It has dual side tanks Im keeping. The box is very nice so Im (probably lol) keeping that. Ive promised the gauges to a board member. Etc etc etc.... I have way too much stuff Im never going to use so I may as well get a little cash for what I can and a little more cash for the extra metal. When Im a little further along Ill post a for sale thread. Dont want to turn this into that. I was mostly just curious about identifying the engine. |

Re: Engine question 67 C10
No input on the engine, but I notice that the SPID mentions an overdrive trans. Anyone have info on this? I assume it is a three speed w/ overdrive? I have a 55 3100 big window that has a three speed O.D. The O.D. unit came out of a '58 or '59 back in the eighties in the wrecking yard in La Grange, Tx. that place was a teasure trove back in the day. I think it was called Banning's (SP). I think that they are still open, but most of the old stuff is gone. My oldest brother lived in La Grange for a while. We pulled several tach dashes (mostly from the big trucks, some had vacuum guages) , tilt wheels, good doors and front clips. There were good cabs too, but we didn't have room for all of that back then.

Re: Engine question 67 C10
I am not engine savvy and am probably way off base with this comment, but did the 283 come with "double hump" heads??

Re: Engine question 67 C10
Since the model # and vin # shows that it was a CE and not a CS (six ) you know it was originally a v-8. Since the spid says nothing about a 327ci option, you know it is the base v-8, therefor it was originally a 283 because those were the only 2 engines you get get in 67 with a CE model

Should be a setting on your camera, I think mine is called Macro. Check your instruction book, it should list the applications for each setting.
