This may sound stupid but I have to ask.What exactley is shaving alll about(not with a razor

)whats done to the truck.I ask beacause I'm not at all into the modified trucks just have a pretty much stock vehicle(crappy body

).I prefer the look of stock but see it takes tallent and money to make some of those trucks.Just curious thats all.Thanks

All it means is to delete something like a door handle or chrome boby trim or a tailgate handle and so on.

Im not a big fan of it my self but it looks good on other peoples trucks.

Take this pic for instance - there are no door handles or locks, no chrome trim, no marker lights on the fenders, no taillights, no drip rails above the doors, cab seam has been filled in, no mirrors.

These are all examples of "shaving."

Man I want this truck! Lol.

Actually I think that I'd change the grille - I'm not a huge fan of the full phantom grilles. Maybe a steel front roll pan too? Would that make ya happy? lol

Shaving tailgate latches, and even maybe the drip sill (as long as you don't roll the windows down) is okay, but shaving door handles IMO is dumb. What happens when your battery dies? Sure they got that rod thing, but thats assuming you have it OUTSIDE the truck

and if the mechanism fails, then your reallly SOL. I'm personally not a fan of shaving vehicles, but as someone above me said, its a matter of opinion. and my motto is if the guy with the name on the registration is happy, thats all that matters.

Most people install a backup "popper" somewhere on the vehicle. With it, they can pop the door open in case of a situation like you mentioned.

I will admit, I am not a "shaved door handle" kind of guy...I actually like a little chrome to break up a truck a little...but shaving other things I do like. I shaved my cab seam, firewall, all the body trim, gas door/cap, stake pockets, emblems, and TG handle. By getting rid of that stuff it gives the truck a cleaner look...and nothing really distracts your eyes when you look at it.

When (sometime this century) I get my truck painted, it will be shaved. I will leave the front bumper of course and door handles/mirrors. The cab seam, stake pockets, tailgate handle and rain gutters will be gone. I have plans to add a fuel cell like Jeff has and will also shave the fuel doors.

I like the clean lines of these trucks and removing some of the distraction to it improves the look. New, these trucks were way to busy for me.

Lol. In all likelihood yes, it'd be street legal. Depends on if it has taillights. Probably does mounted in the roll pan.

I can't see in the pic, but I doubt the above orange truck even has wipers. Most folks will remove the wipers and put a chrome knob on the shaft, when showing it. It's not street legal because it don't have any side mirrors.

That is a very sharp truck. I think if I were the owner I would have to get rid of the bumper bolts. Looks like from the pic, this is all it needs to make it a killer truck.

I think you're right there Swerve. That truck has a smoothed wiper cowl upon closer inspection. Not likely any wipers. Got me on the mirrors too - damn! Lol.

if i ever get started on the body work stage of my truck, this is what i have planed:

shaved cab seam, cargo lamp, drip rails, bed stakes, fuel doors(with fuel cell like mike mentioned) tailgate handle, and mirrors(dont know if i'm gonna go with smaller ones or not)

I've got my cab seam filled, just have to smooth it out. Have the drip rails gone and filled, Door handles are gone and filled, tailgate handle is relocated (still have to get the weld in cover) I will be going with the smaller mirrors too, have to fill in the stock mirror holes. It's the smaller things that make the biggest difference!

Swerve - You were talking about getting rid of the bumper bolts - How do most guys do it? Weld the bolts from to the back of the bumper and grind the heads, then rechrome? Or is there a different method that's better?

In some states as long as you have a rear view mirror you can shave the side mirrors.

Oklahoma is that way.

That is what I am doing. Some people also weld a larger washer to the inside first, to give it more strength.

BTW - lets see some pics of your ride, I don't think I ever have.

Lol. She's a LOOOOOOOONG way from completion yet Jeff! Still in the garage awaiting a little more filler and a lot more smoothing. These are some pics taken a while back, not much has changed since then. Lost my job due to a Gov't. shutdown, so haven't had the cash to get the needed work done. I've got all the front end panels, have my seat recovered, sun visors carpeted, door panel inserts with new carpet, new floor carpeting, grille, headlight bezels, etc. Still need a bed, all the new interior trim, my headliner and door pockets are getting new material. I will take some more pics of the cab seam and the drip rails and post them up. Should be able to get it done today.
