A/C Bracket question - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

I got a new harmonic balancer(see "Is this suppose to happen") now the pulleys line up. But the brackets don't look right. I have a 1971 C-20 with a 307, altis on the driver side, A/C is on the passenger side. The bracket on the intake manifold, is that all it does?

It looks like you are missing a top bracket, the rear slide bracket is backwards, and the intake manifold bracket is different from the one on my 71 blazer (pictured) or my 70 K10.

It holds the smog pump if equipt with one

So from what i see is the bracket on the intake manifold is wrong, it's to big and there should be a different bracket on the front of the A/C compressor?

Andy4639 is there any type of ajustment on the large bracket (the one on the right in your pic)? Thanks for the info guys.

is your truck a CA truck (i.e. originally licensed in CA when sold new, a Z code truck doesn't always mean a CA truck)? There are different brackets depending on whether or not it was originally a smog-pump equipped truck as chewy mentioned. If the smog pump is removed (thrown away usually

) then it looks like "something's missing"

I'm only kinda familiar with the big block smog pump setup - notsomuch the small block arrangement. So, it is possible - maybe someone with a small block with a smog pump can ID whether or not what you have is a smog pump bracket assembly.

Regardless, since the pump is gone, you probably need to punt and get the correct stuff as shown by rsavage and andy.

BTW, it looks like the bracket that your horizontal arrow is pointing to is installed backwards maybe (??) It is necessary - it supports the rear of the a/c compressor.

No not CA truck as far as I know it is an AZ truck. I found this one in the back of someones 5 acres, he had bought it from a guy down the street. I thinks its a combination of 4 other owners ideas.

well then, probably best to find a new set o brackets - i think you're right, something looks kinda funky in there. Could perhaps be a transplanted CA motor - the thermo housing doesn't look very 67-72ish. Who knows!

Yes you can adjust it the bolt slides through the bracket it self. The one that has the end cut off is a orignal bracket that I modified I now have another that isn't cut off.
This shows the same brackets as mine. U can see the adjustments.

Per the measurements I gave them. Ride height of truck inside spring and inside diameter of springs.
