valve cover question?

my 64 has a 350 out of a 1975 ,i got some new valve covers for it was wondering does it matter where breather holes are located, right now has a pcv on drivers side towards the front and breather on pass. side closer to firewall, might be a dumb question just want it to be right and read the importance of crankcase ventilation

Re: valve cover question?

If I had the choice, I would leave it just like it is. The pcv on the drivers side front and the breather in the rear on the passenger side. I think having the breather(s) in the rear helps keep the oil mess down under the hood. Just my thoughts

The truth is, it does not matter. The engine does not care as long as both are in place.

It depends on the covers you are using. I like Fel-Pro products. They make a 5/32 valve cover gasket for a small block or a 7/32 thick gasket. I would use the thicker ones on tin covers and the thinner ones on cast aluminum.

Hope this helps.

Re: valve cover question?

Make sure there's a baffle under the pcv or you'll be pulling oil out of the cover.

2nd that The Moroso covers were not baffled on my 383, & she would smoke out the tail pipes under high vacumn. I popped an oil separator in the cover, the plugged the pcv into that...(solved the problem) Little bro, is running that engine on the track (Cordova), in his S-dime....she don't smoke? Longhorn

Put that one to the rear, under the cover breather. The pc I talked about, went to the front....2/12 to 3" canister, popped in the cover....looked like something, that you would see on a Mopar? You can purchase the part & at any speed shop. it had a tube out 1 side, to hook a short pcs of line to....then plug the pcv into that?Ill see, if I can dig up a PN. Longhorn

Re: valve cover question?

Maybe but hard to tell without a pic. They do make baffle/grommets though. Like these sold in a pair. One for the pcv, one for the breather.

I move slow in my old age....LOL! But here goes...what I used was a Moroso part# 68780, to fit a 1.22 hole in the cover? Are you ready , other old phart? , the part is around 12 bones(Jegs). Now these were aftermarket covers....not the same hole size as the stockers? To Geezer....I love the fun old man....maybe the younger guys can keep us "sharp" Longhorn

Re: valve cover question?

It's your choice.
Bigger grommet or bigger pcv.
Since rubber deteriorates over time I'd get a better fitting grommet.
