CL ad for a '66 C10- thoughts?

I'm interested in hearing what you seasoned C10 lovers have to say about this truck. Interestingly enuf, there's another 66 for $27500 in MA that won The World of Wheels in 2012. Run away, go for it- what's good and bad about these funky looking trucks, with the markers in the hood? It's in my price range, and I know it'll need some work- would love to hear your thoughts.

It looks pretty clean, I would go and look at it and check for rust in doors and rockers. The 'skip' might be fixed with an HEI distributor (maybe not, never had a 6 cyl). Looks good though.

By the looks of the shifter, its a column shift? Sound right for that year? Doors and rockers, check. Provided its not rusted out, does that price sound right?

Yes, it does look like a column shift, I think he said 3 speed, I would still try and talk him down, 3650 doesn't seem like a firm price, I'm sure it's negotiable. I'm not the best of pricing these trucks out, so I would shoot for $2400? Talk down about the flaws and such.

Pull up that mat in the floor and check for rust there too, crawl under it check for rust on frame and everything.

That's what I would do.

From what I can see in the pictures the price is not bad. You also have all that nice custom trim on there to. I'd talk him down to $2500. The miss in the engine is probably a small issue.

Side trim doesn't match on the drivers side. Cab looks settled, mounts could be bad.

Add a knowledgeable friend and magnet to the what to bring list with the creeper and flashlight. Too often we overlook details because we want something.

#1 Rust is ALWAYS worse than it appears, ESPECIALLY in New England.

I bought mine "running a little rough" which turned out to be running on 2.5 cylinders due to stuck valves and bent push rods.

A good way to check for floor rust is 1st to do it at night. Pull up all the floor mat and have a friend shine a big light onto top of floor inside truck. You crawl underneath and look: light will shine thru every hole, big or small.

Not sure now that I'm wondering if i really love the year- or just want an old truck! Thanks for the good advice, I'll keep pondering

This site is good for the "wanting something" issue- I've made that mistake too many times to count. I've started looking out of state, figure if i can get something solid, it might be worth the drive

This site is FANTASTIC and HORRIBLE at the same time. The wealth of knowledge and willingness to help of the members is fantastic. It is horrible when you read all the trucks found especially in the Western US, while we sit in the overpriced rust haven of New England.

There are still good trucks to be found around New England, most aren't on Craigslist.

The short bed v8 trucks fetch the most money, so I ended up picking up an all original v6 1 ton dually with 13,000 miles for $2500. Plus $500 shipping, plus about $500 to get a clear title (Ma is a stickler for a title or current registration), plus more and more....

We recently were out in Western Massachusetts and took the scenic ride home instead of the Mass Pike rt90. I saw 4 1960-1972 truck for sale, of course I had to stop and look at each. No diamonds in the rough to be found that day. They're out there.

Just go in with eyes wide open and make a decision that works best for you.
