Help me out fellows

I am in the process of trying to replace the rear axle seals in my 66 GMC and cannot figure out how to get the axles out.I had a friend over and he said it don't look like the rear has a c clip design.I know for a fact that there is 4 bolts holding the backing plate onto the rear,do they have anything to do with removing the axle? I also notice on the ring gear it has DANA stamped into it.Help me because im getting very frustrated. This was supposed to be a easy brake shoe replacement and then I found the axle seals leaking.Im on a tight schedule to get this thing done for a classic car cruise in a week and have way too much stuff to do to it

Re: Help me out fellows

rotate the pinion there should be a single bolt holding the pin for the spider gears pull it and the pin rotate the spiders out of the carrier push the axel shafts in then you will see the c clips remove them then you can pull out the axel shafts

There is no bolt in there.I looked.Where the bolt usually is,is maybe the remains of a bolt at best. There is a hole in there like someone tried to drill it out?!?! I have had no success in getting it out.I dont have the time or patience to do this and may have to get someone else to do it for me.Im so pissed off at this point,im ready to put a for sale sign in it

Re: Help me out fellows

GMC did not use chevy axles in 1/2 and 3/4 ton pickups in these years. You have a dana spicer axle, not the chevrolet type.

Re: Help me out fellows

And the **** continues.Where in the hell can we get inner axle seals for a dana rear? LMC don't have them nor does any other place. I swear to god if I had known that there was this much lack of parts for these trucks I would not have bought it. Im so pissed off right now

Re: Help me out fellows

I checked ROCKAUTO, they always have lots of listings. For a Spicer 60 they list Timken 455860 for a 292l engine, for a 305 they list BCA/National 450067 for wheel seal. Look at their site then do a google search for same part numbers or at advanceautoparts, also check manufactur web site for details. If I new exactly what the part was(year/engine/rear) I might be able to help more. Good luck and remember sometimes you will have problems getting parts. For my 64 the wheel seals(r axle) are $20+ dollars, next time I'll use later year parts. I wouldn't rely on LMC for getting hard to find parts either. I've spent numerous hours online figuring out exactly what parts I've needed and where to get them cheaper/quicker.
