I have heard that the 72 GMC front clip is the same as the 67-68 chevys, Is this correct? Other than the grill

I think the fenders are the same on 68-72 GMC's as they are on 68 Chevy.

And you have the double headlite buckets spot welded to the core support

68-72 GMC fenders are the same as 68 Chevy,that`s all.

67 GMC's and Chevy's had the same fenders. 68-72 GMC's all used the same fender as 68 Chevy's. Only difference between the 67 and the 68 fenders were the addition of the side marker lights in 68.

you can swap out the entire front clip GMC to chevy though.

So the hood is different than the 67-68 chevy? I can answer my own question here, I went and saw this 72 GMC, I saw where the hood is same as 69-72 chevy, Now if fenders are the same as 67-68, I can use the 67-68 hood on this 72 GMC front clip. Right? This 72 is in nice shape, I bought it for the bed, has a nice grill, AC cab, solid cab supports, nice doors etc. You will see it in parts here as soon as I get it home

Yeah,let me break it down....

First of all,`67 Chevy & GMC grilles are the same,except Chevy has letters.`68 is the same except for the different letters.

Only Chevy fenders changed in`69.

All hoods changed to the same hood on Chevy/GMC in`69,except GMC has holes for letters.

All GMC grilles,67-72 can be interchanged on GMCs.

In`69 when the hood changed GMCs recieved a surround just like chevys did,but...it is three seperate pieces not part of the grille:2 fender brows fastened to the fenders and a top piece fastened to the grille.
This was necessary because when the hood got steeper in`69 it got shorter and the surround fills the gap.

So...if you use a 67/68 hood you can run any GMC grille w/o the surround.There`s the narrow trim that`68s came with if you want to use that.
You can use a 69/72 hood with any grille,but you`ll need the 69/72 surround pieces.

I (for one) would like to see the pictures that illustrate these differences. Since I'm into Chevies, I don't have the detailed info on GMC's. But, I have owned Jimmies, but not the '67-72's.

Here you go LoRay,

First pic: 68-72 GMC and 68 Chevy fender. This is a '69 fender pictured, but as you can see even with the brow trim removed it still smooth on the front.

Second pic: 69-72 Chevy ONLY fender. Notice the indention on the front for the aluminum grills on the Chevys.

Third pic: 67 ONLY GMC and Chevy. Note there is no side marker light.

Jaros44, although your trim combo works and look good, it isn't factory correct. I'm sure you know this, I am just clarifying for the others that the 69 - 72 GMC's that came with that upper brow you are using did not have the indention like you fenders do. Your fender is a '69 - '72 Chevy fender.

That is a very unique look you have though. I like it!

That is why I posted both, but I didn't like it and went full '68. My point was that anything can be created, and thanks for keeping that clear

Cool. I was hoping you wouldn't think I was trying to correct you or anything, because I knew you knew the difference in them.

You're exactly right about creating any combination. Rokcrln's Low Buck truck is a the perfect example of a Duke's mixture in regards to these trucks. He's got just about every variation covered from 67 to 72 on it!

If you try to put anything but a factory 2 core radiator in the '67,'68 core support you will have problems with the flange underneath the rad. You can bend it down or cut it off. Also the lower rad. mounts need to be clearanced for 4 core...Simply stuff

Changed it again, got some OEM '68 fenders off of the classified, waiting to paint, then I'll hang 'em

Hmmm, I did not know that. I am going to have to run a big 4 row in my '67 C-30 to keep the diesel cool. Thanks for the heads up! I guess I can plan on modifying yet another part of my truck!

I don't think a 2 row is gonna work with big green beast!
