72 3/4 ton lowering?? - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

Hey everyone! Names Justin, I bought another members truck (Phlebmaster) I have made numerous changes to it, and am still in the process of building this thing. My question is where can I find a mild 1-3" lowering kit for this truck? someone told me that front lowering coils for a c10 will fit as long as i am not planning on using it as a 3/4 ton, (which i am not) and that i can use a set of drop shackles or remove a rear leaf spring..
What should I do? It will never be used to haul anything, but i am not keen on the idea of hacking my factory coils like some guys, but I cant find anything for a c20 out there. Is this a safe way to go? And if I remove a rear leaf, which one do I pull?

Do a quick search of C20 lowering and you will find a couple of greats discussions with photos and available parts for 3/4 tons.

You are mixing techniques for a coil spring suspension and leaf spring suspension.

If it's a coil rear blocks would be easiest. Drop coils are really easy too though.

If it's a leaf spring you could remove a leaf or install a flip kit.

Thanks for the help guys. I am sorry that I wasn't clear, but the truck has coils up front and leafs in the rear. I will keep searching and let you know what I come up with.

No, I didn't pay attention when I read it.
Up front lowering coils would probably be your best bet. I think there might be drop spindles available for a 3/4 ton too but I am not certain.

Yeah I have located the drop spindles, a few companies make them, but i am unclear on wether I need to switch my rotors, ball joints, tie rods, etc. It almost seems that the easiest way to go for what I want, would be to cut one ring from each coil in the front, and do a flip kit, or shackles in the rear..

IF you cut one coil you will get two inches, two coils four inches Etc....Don't remove a leaf spring just do a swap to under the axle! I have a 3/4 ton gmc and this method worked great for me! But watch out If you go too low in front you'll bottom out so I would suggest no more than one coil! And some food for thought you can get a set of coils to lower the truck for around 100 bucks if your weary about cutting your stockers.

Hey thanks! That sounds like a good option. One coil, and flippin my axle should give me perfect stance. Anything I should watch out for on the axle flip?

Looks good. Just curious.. do you have any steering issues with the tires tucked up front? I have lifted far too many rigs to count, and this is my first lowering job. Just wanted to get a few pointers and what I should watch out for.

In post #15 you'll see Cadillacart's truck before and after. He also says the 2 coils cut off the front are too much. Leaves only 1/2" or so suspension travel.
