Fiberglassing the dash pad
I'm looking for info on fiberglassing over the dash padand was wondering how well the fiberglass would bond to it? Will it stick without major prep work or is there some proceedures I've got to do to ensure it will?
Or should I just completely strip down an old dashpad and build it/shape it back up the way I want it to be? I'm adding a 15" widescreen monitor to the dash center andam building a mold for the pod I want to incorporate into the dash and have it look totally seamless.

Good post. I'm looking to do the same thing to mine. I think their are a few members here that has glassed their dash pads.
I'm thinking that sanding down any and all cracks to smooth the surface, clean,clean,clean surface. Use a sheet of fleece and then glass? Or maybe use a glue for the fleece to bond to dash pad?

hmm so im not the only one wondering the same thing..
im thinking of carefully removing all the cracked plastic covering then smoothing out with fiber filler then getting it wrapped in good quality stretchy vinyl...

My fiberglassing skills aren't that good, so I bought a 1-piece fiberglass pad from USBody for like $300. I figure my time is worth at least $50 an hour, and it would take me way more than 6 hours to make a something presentable out of the original cracked dash pad. Plus I would have spent quite a bit on materials.

i believe there were threads about this before and if i remember correctly you have to remove anything loose that is on there and clean the dash pad with a good degreaser and all... if there is shine to the pad at all id lightly sand it with a hi grit sand paper then start glassing... id also make sure i got all the bubbles out of the fiberglass go real easy and be patient... ive done fiberglassing on my boat and it can be a real PITA

heres some pics of my dash
  the trick is clean, clean,clean i sand with 120 fix all cracks and resin the whole dash sand smooth filler primer a couple times sanding between and paint |

to paint? 3 hours. paint time maybe 1 hour with clean up. now i did start out with a pretty decent dash

But Im wondering on if I should use a layer fleece or fiber glass matt?

I'm going to use fleece for mine so I can incorporate the curves I want more easily than I could with 'glass matting. I'm going to start on it this weekend and take pics of it along the way to post my progress on here ONLY IF it comes out looking the way I hope it will.
