Have a in side spare tire carrier listed here, about 8-9 threads below this. Solid with no rust if interested.

Re: Wanted:74’ GMC Jimmy/Blazer parts

Thank you for the replies. Unfortunately that carrier is for a late 70’s-91 K5? The one that was in my 74 goes directly behind the drivers side back seat and faces out the back. Also, I’m looking for a floor shift tilt column as my truck has a 4 speed manual transmission. The hunt continues!

You’re looking for the same style that came in the 69-72 k-5’s sounds like. People forget they also came in some of the early square k-5’s before switching to the rod style

Thanks for the reply. Did not realize the early K5s used the older 69-72 spare tire mount. I had a 71 K5 that did have the swing away outer spare tire mount bolted to the passenger side rear quarter. Years later I had a 77 K5 and it had the same style spare mount as I have listed. Still learning after all these years the little tid bits of info, LOL. Good luck in your search.

The swing outs were an aftermarket option, Hickey I believe. Yea the earlier style carrier is not common in squares. I was fortunate enough to hunt down 2 for my builds. 10 times more rare and pricey than the rod style

smupser, thanks for posting that pic. That clears up for sure what the two differences are in the square body Blazers spare tire mounts. Good info there, thanks.

No problem Gary, that’s what we’re all here for.

To put it in perspective, the later rod style don’t go for much, most average for a complete setup at $150 or less. The earlier style go for at least $550-600 just for the carrier, more if you’re lucky enough to find one with all the correct parts. I think I paid around $600 a piece for two of them and both only had a couple of the parts with them. This is because they’re also 69-72 K5 carriers, which any hard to find part for those years, is worth their weight in gold.

Sorry to OP for the thread jack, just wanted to add some knowledge on what you were looking for.

Re: Wanted:74’ GMC Jimmy/Blazer parts

For the spare, would a '73 or '75 spare (original tire and rim) work or are you going concours and need the '74 date code?
I may have some buckets also (out of a '75).
I have GMC grills also but I would suggest finding one in full chrome as I don't think there is a better looking square body grill once you strip the argent. I don't have a spare chrome one.
Everything is in MI.
