Re: texas squares

I didn't think it was required by law to have them in Texas.

Same here. Shaved mirrors, primered and young and haven't been stopped or given any trouble for it. In Texas you only need one mirror to be legal anyways so a rear view satisfies that.

Print out this page and keep it in the truck.

Point out the note at the bottom of the page to any officer that stops you.

Re: texas squares

same here.
Houston, Tx.
Never a mention of it being an issue in over 8 years.
Safety inspected every year.
From my recollection of being a tx vehicle safety inspector, the vehicle must have a rear viewing device... the normal windshield mounted rvm is enough.

Re: texas squares

Texas state inspection only requires one mirror. if you have a rearview mirror then you are good. If you have tinted windows then it will give them a reason to pull you over, they can state they didn't see the rearview.

That's what my inspection guy told me and i verified it by checking the state vehicle inspection requirements online.

You can check the link here http://www.txdps.state.tx.us/vi/publ...l/chapter4.htm

more info from the horses mouth...

got curious. your inside mirror is sufficient if it meets criteria.
you can find the rules here:

http://www.txdps.state.tx.us/vi/insp.../item_insp.asp

some tasty excerpts:

20.19 Mirror. Every motor vehicle shall be equipped with a mirror so located as to reflect to the driver a view of the highway for a distance of at least 200 feet to the rear of such motor vehicle.

2. Inspect for and reject if:

b. Vehicle is not equipped with at least one mirror.

NOTE: An inside mirror would meet all the above requirements. If the vehicle is equipped with more than one mirror, only one, either inside or outside, needs to meet all requirements.

Re: texas squares

You have to have a mirror that allows you to see 200 feet behind you. If your back window is blocked then you must have an outside mirror.

Re: texas squares

I wonder, and I understand the one mirror facing rearward thing.....Could removing mirrors be considered altering safety equipment? Altering or removing safety equipment is not legal. So i wonder if they'd have a leg to stad on if they chose to hit you with a ticket on this?

Myself, I like mirrors. But I could also understand someone who might want to shave them.
