Time for a system

Well I am getting ready to finish my 350 and after thats done im going in and concentrating on the system of the truck im a sucker for bass but that part is done. I have two 10" power acousticks(yes cheap but will blow off any ther brand) they have around 1100wats each sub. I was powering it with just a wimpy 800 but im putting in another 650 watt amp. The subs are not what im worried though I want to concentrate on the other speakers, the radio is new and is a pioneer..reall good radio...again i am concentration on speakers. Right now my rear speakers are those old types of speakers that all come in a box and u just connect the wires to the box, w/e there pioneers they work fine but i need something with more power, and in front right now i have alpine 4" speakers, they wrok great but their too small. I was thinking of getting a oair of thos q-logic kickpanels for the front and running component speakers sense it has space for the tweeter but i dunno if a component 6.5 speaker will fit...most of their magents are pretty big. And for the back ima go with the usual 6x9 by pioneer or something but the fron it what im worried about because there are no holes so i cant just mount the speaker somewhere, and I also dont want to drill a hole into the door.

Here are the subs:

Re: Time for a system

Get some good 3 1/2" for the dash, and some 6.5" components for the kick panels.

My truck has 3.5" in the dash, stock location. Maybe yours does not.

Re: Time for a system

I take it he has a 70's truck, which means you don't get two 3.5 speakers at each corner of the dash. The 70's trucks only have a single oval shaped speaker in the center of the dash which is pretty much worthless for a high end setup.

Q Logic kick panels and a good set of component speakers are you best bet for sound quality and stereo imaging. Since you have so much bass, you need just as much speaker. I would get some 6X9's in boxes for the rear. To top it all off, you will need a good 4 channel amp for your speakers so they retain clarity at that volume level. A 65Wx4 amp would be a good place to start.

Re: Time for a system

I got the qlogic kick panels. I put the high end fosgate separates in there. They are 5.25" You could fit some 6", not sure about 6.5" Don't let 5.25" fool you, these things are loud and clear!
I do have some fosgate 3.5" 2ways in the dash and the 4-8" fosgate subs in a sealed box behind the seat. Along with a 5 channel amp, around 450-500 watts to the whole system. Sounds great and can get pretty loud. I guess I could have went with a bigger amp, or 2 amps, but I don't listen to it loud...maybe once in awhile if someone is checking out my ride, i'll turn it up for a minute or so. But not for very long.

Re: Time for a system

Lol oh in the dash yes it comes with a 4x10 in the center which i have one from a previous prject car where we didnt use it so ima use it on here. What i meant by the component speackers is that they look pretty thick i mean the magnet and i wasnt sure if it would fit but i guess i can go with the 5.25". And as for another amp ima be running two on the suns and the amps are gonna be under the seats lol where am i gonna put the other one. As for 6x9's yea ima get a good pair im not worried about that. And what are those little boxes that come with the component speakers are they little amps? Ive been looking at some on ebay and can get a good pair for around $100-120. I wanna keep the cash low but great sound and plus im not the best at electricity so whats the simplest way i can keep it lol.

The little things that come with components are crossovers.

Yes, your output from your amp or head unit go into the crossover, it has 2 sets of outputs, one for the tweets and one for the mids.

Re: Time for a system

You think i can just run the crossovers str8 to the radio better then not spending money on another amp. And should i do components for the rear or should i just go with the usual 6x9?

Re: Time for a system

With that much sub you really need to amplify they highs. Most components will not sound great off just the head unit.

it's pretty decent. Could get more with a bigger amp, but it sounds real good to me.

My brother said i can just run the normal speakers to the radio sense it has a good amperage and just lower the output on the subs and i should be ok.

YEs, it will be okay. But it will not perform as well as it could/should.

Re: Time for a system

If you really want it to sound 'nice' I would invest more in the mids and highs.

Take two systems,

system 1.

mids and highs run off head unit
2 12" subs with 400 watt amp

system 2

mids and highs run off 200 watt amp
1 12" sub with 200 watt amp

Overall, system 2 is going to sound much mouch better. System 1 may have more bass but you are going to drown out 80% of the music. System 2 will still have mirror rattling bass, but you will be able to here the rest of the music as well.

Re: Time for a system

Lol the music sounds fine how it is now but the speakers in front are two small and the back ones are starting to give up (too old) i just need to update but i wanna try those component speaker to see if i can get more high then mid. I think the 6x9s in the rear would take care mids.

Re: Time for a system

Plus im already running two amps because the one 800 watt isnt enough for those subs. So my two buckets seats are taken (the bottom part). I dunno where to put the other ampthe cabs in these truck are big but im trieng to make it nice and organized lol so that pretty much is hard even though the cab is large.

Re: Time for a system

Again, most component sets are to be run off an amp, and usually do not sound good just off a head unit.

Re: Time for a system

Depends on the speakers, most seem to be rated arounf 150 watts peak. But peak amps is the most useless rating.

I would look for an amp with about 25-50 watts RMS per channel to run a set of good components.
