I went to the wrecking yard today and they have a 70 Suburban 1/2 ton with one on it. My question, does anyone know what size (diamater) this one is????

I am not sure of the diameter but a 3/4 ton bar would be ideal for great handling IMO... That's what I got..

it looks to be a 3/4" a 1" would be better with a 3/4" rear to go with it. that truck would be a real corner carver then.

Could be a 1 1/16" or a 1 1/8" bar. Just go back there and measure it. Either will be a great improvement over not having one

I bought a 1 1/16 bar from board member Hardrock2, (with all hardware including the original bolts and bsuhings WOW) I installed new grade 8 bolts and nylon nuts. I also put moog poly bushings and WHAT A DIFFERENCE IT MAKES!!! DO IT NOW!! DO NOT STOP, DO NOT PASS GO!!! DO NOT COLLECT 200 DOLLARS. PROCEDE DIRECTLY TO AWESOME HANDLING AVENUE!!

im thinking about buying front and rear sway bars. do you have the moog part numbers for those bushings? how much were they

I don't have any part numbers for a rear sway bar, but I do have a good place for the front sway bar bushings, here:

Hope this helps. What rear sway bar are you going to use? I heard one off of a z28 camaro works.

Junkyard...... any truck up to 87 or Suburban to 91 is a donor candidate. Just kneel down and look under there to see if it has one. Any junkyard I've ever been in, and that's too many to count, had piles of them ripe for the picking.

You can buy the bushings anyplace that sells Moog.......hint, call them on the phone and say "Do you guys sells Moog brand suspension parts?". O Reilley comes to mind right off.

thanks for your replies, I guess I'll go back to the yard and go out and measure but I had it set up to just call them if I wanted it. Could have saved a bit of time that way.

I just arrived back from the junk yard and found two sizes the 1 1/16" and the 1 1/4". The 1 1/4" bar is on a camper special from the mid seventies.
My question is I enjoy a relativly soft ride but hate the swaying of the truck. Would I feel a diference between the two bars running down the road straight or hiting potholes?

for better handling on my 70 lb that is.

do the rears work off these junkyard trucks/burbs or do i really need a rear one. i dont think ive actually seen the swaybars on the front of a truck... anyone have a pic

dinnut, I don't know about the backs but the front sway bar is going to help without a doubt, my rear is leafsprung. For pictures look in the FAQ section and they are posted there.....still wondering about the ride quality???
