Small block ID please...

Just picked up a junk 72 blazer and need help decoding the engine. I can't see the casting, but the front numbers are VO515UPB. It looks to be a later model. Thanks for any help.
Eric

Re: Small block ID please...

Could it possibly be URB? That is an 83 350ci truck.

Re: Small block ID please...

Scratched it some more and it sure looks like UPB.

Could it be a 69 307 with 305 heads and intake? I blew up your pic and inverted the colors and I wonder if mabey thats not a B looks more like a 5 but that doesn't compute either. Also is that a little dot after the P?

I also looked at the casting stamp on the driver head and it looks close to O below, but not exact so I really don't know. O is late model 305, could heads and intake have been swaped? If it were me, I would pull that alt and wirewheel the pad. Then use machinest dye or paint on the stampings, then sand the pad with a flat block and fine sandpaper, then see what you get.

If this doesn't help atleast it will get you back to the top.

Re: Small block ID please...

A little more info. The number on the intake looks like 14057055
And it looks like UPB to me on the block. I think there are some other numbers below the stamp, but they are very faint.

Re: Small block ID please...

Since this has the 4bbl, i assume it is the 86 engine you listed. I think it is a fairly fresh engine that has sat for awhile. Now the question is what to do with it!
Thanks for your help bruceman.
Eric

Eric
on one website I found intake #14057055 is 86 350 4v cast iron, and #14057053 is aluminum but I haven't found a second source on that. I think it's safe to say it's 1986 350. your welcome, Bruceman
