sorry for being a post whore but i need answers before i possibly send a money order out this weekend. the tires are 40"x12.5"/20r. they are military take offs. does anyone know anything about these tires? can i run them on the street? anyone know where i can find info on them? can i run these on some 8 lug 20x10 like these

What is the size on the side of the tire? We have a tire like that on our 6x6 tractors that we pull our trailors with. They are the same pattern but I believe ours are 14.00x????? Ill have to look tomorrow. Kinda curious cause the tires we have are pretty tall

they are used on the national guard extended use program M35A3 they are a pretty good tire they have a bit of a hum going down the road though. I don't know what speed they are good to but most military truck tires shouldn't be run over 70 mph as they are built by the lowest bidder and tend to start to come apart over that speed as no military vehicle is designed to go over 55-60 mph. if youv'e seen what happens to a m35 series when the tire comes apart at highway speed you'll understand why they only go 55.
P. S. I order those tires quite a bit lately- dry rot - probably make cool tires on an off road only vehicle!

are they badly dry rotted? i only plan on using these for shows and playing around. would you see any problem with me mounting them on a regular 20" truck rim?

You must have one heck of a lift if your gonna put these on a truck. As far as offroad we did stick one last year but we were pullin a 60,000 trailor out of a pretty muddy spot. The only problem Ive seen is our big tractors cant get any wheel speed to clean the lugs well at least with all that weight attached. I can get you pics of them on a 6x6 if you would like.

they're available in a 38.7" size for a 16" rim too.

do you still have the stock dana 44?

with 40" tires it is time for a dana 60 up front. not just for the strength (Although you do need it)...you need better brakes to stop some heavy ass tires like that. You probably know this already, just thought I'd chip in my 2 cents.

1969 GMC- what do you think about this, im not a fan of 20s but on 40's they shouldnt look half bad,

IS it the same guy on ebay lives here in California if it is watchout !!!! I was going to buy some Hummer wheeels of him military style and he was kind of shady to say the least wanted me to send a money order to a po box different town from where he lived and then said 2-3 weeks for delivery I told him to F#@K off .. 8 inches WILL NOT clear 40's. Better have some more lift on the way if they measure a true 40. Like I said before, if you run a true 38, you will be a street queen. No clearance is bad. Just say no to the SAW-ZAW!!!

I'd say yes to a body lift. alex ran some 40s with an 8" lift on his old truck.

Me and mac67 were talking, and we think these tires might need a rim with a special bead. Unless i can find someone that has done this before I might pass. Too big of a purchase to take a risk with. I dont want to have to donate them to the local playground after I realize theyre useless to me.

I have 39 inch mickeys on my truck, and they have only rubbed once and it was the droop side of the axle that did. my only lift is skyjacker all spring 8 inch, paired with rotted and mashed body bushings. i know they aren't 40 inches but they measure around 38 3/4 ish. it was no trailer queen before i started taking it apart.

If you are looking for tires i would sell you my 39-15/16.5 mickeys... only have like 2500 street miles on them and about 15 dirt. they are in great shape.

That's funny. Mine rub on just light-moderate stuff and I have 9 inches. Mine measure about 38.2 inches. Only rubs the rear corner of the front fender well.

You talking to him or me? My truck has a 6 inch spring and 3 inch body that came with the truck. I will probably swap to 8 inch springs or run 36's next time. Undecided.

My old blazer had a 8' lift and it was NOT enough for 38's on the trails I peeled the hell out of my fenders

well saved me time with the saws all but it gouged the tires up a bit also.

meant to ask for the two people mentioned who run or want to run 40" tires on a 8" lift truck. basically i see it all the time where people set up their 4x4's to the point where tire will rub on any off roading and was just wondering why? isnt the whole point of a 4x4 to go in rough terrain? am i missing something?
