speedometer bounce

I installed a new speedometer gauge about 10 years ago along with new cable. Now recently the needle is bouncing , but there in no noise associated with the bounce. How do I fix this problem?

Re: speedometer bounce

Hi Jan,

Was the new speedometer rebuilt or was it new? Even 10 years ago this is something that was more than likely rebuilt. Speedometer heads have a magnetic spool inside them and when the magnet gets weak from age, it will cause the needle to bounce.

Also, check your cable for any hard kinks that would cause it to not to run consistently. It depends on how much it bounces but cables are rarely the problem for a speedometer needle that bounces.

I can repair your speedometer for you if you determine that is the issue.

Keep us posted and welcome to the forum. It is a great place for good knowledge.

Take care,
Tom

Re: speedometer bounce

Your cable may also need graphite lubricant. My 76 Camaro had this issue (24 years ago), Dad suggested that and it worked.
