Busted...

.

Been driving my '67 a LOT this season. Yesterday was a bad day to drive the classic. I was going 70 and the oncoming traffic was likely the same speed. Something came off a truck passing and hit my truck at somewhere over 100MPH...it was very loud and violent...took out the windshield and a wiper arm. Tiny bits of glass spewed all over the interior. Thankfully I don't see any other damage.

In the market for replacement parts now!

Re: Busted...

Thank goodness it didn’t hit on your side. The small dolly wheel from a trailer came loose and hit my Jeep Cherokees driver A pillar. The impact was frightening, out of nowhere. The inside mirror was jarred loose and fell off the windshield. A few inches one way or another and it would have gone right through the side window or windshield. Glad you are ok..Jack

Re: Busted...

While you are going through the aggravation of part replacement, take comfort in the fact that no shards of glass hit you and it appears no painted parts were damaged. Thats a really good thing.

Re: Busted...

very lucky and glad you're OK!

this happened to me about 20 years ago

could of been much worse but thankfully the windshield held!

fortunately I had sunglasses on so nothing got in my eyes but I had glass stuck in me like a porcupine exploded and only minor bleeding on my hands and face

bent piece of rebar kicked up from left rear wheel of the truck in front of me going 65 on my way home from work

hit directly in front of my face and close to going completely through, I could feel the breeze coming through the torn laminate

Re: Busted...

I think it was a 10mm socket, which is now probably in the woods aside the highway. Used to ride a motorcycle, something like this to the face or anywhere on the body would do quite a bit of damage.

Stay safe out there,

-Kevin

Re: Busted...

Scary looking for sure! But as others have said, it could easily have been much worse. Glad you are okay!

Re: Busted...

I got to thinking. We all drive around with people who don't wear glasses. I know my sons didn't when they were little. Probably one of many reasons why children's seats face backwards nowadays.

Re: Busted...

Got a similar surprise, although in the peterbilt.
Car spun out in the median, and it's shrapnel got me good in the slow lane.

Glad you were not harmed, and that damage is relatively minor.

Re: Busted...

Glad to hear you are ok! I had a piece of tire come off a semi about 2 months ago. Hot the hood of the truck, then bounced to the rain gutter. Ruined the chome molding on the front of the hood, put a huge dent in the hood and bent the rain gutter a bit.

Your could have been a lot worse!

Re: Busted...

A close friend survived a semi tire falling out of the cradle holding its spare tire. It bounced multiple times and headed directly toward his car. He had the smarts to duck down below the dash (80’s thunderbird) , the impact peeled the roof back completely. Both A pillars were severed off. When others stop to help my friend was conscious but bleeding profusely from glass shard’s hitting him in the face and neck area. It did not take long to extract him because there was nothing to remove to free him.

Re: Busted...

^ fortunate he survived!

sadly there's a fatality statistic of loose truck tires on highways

trailer tire came off and crossed the median
