Talking Finally Drove It Today

Well today was the longest drive I have ever taken in my truck and I have now owned it for over two years. I had a bad case of the perma-grin the whole ride down. though the gas mileage was terrible and the ride was rougher than hell it will be a day I not soon forget. First I would like to thank all of the knowledgable members. I sometimes wonder if I would have make it though the restoration if it hadn't been for this web page( KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK) any way for those of you who dont remember I have the 4X4 yellow short wheel base

Thanks again

By the way Robby if you read this give me a call I would live to show you my truck

One more small thing for all of you who are currently in the process of a resto don't lose faith soon you too will be taking the greatest ride of your life with a smile ear to ear and getting all of the waves from people you don't know just to tell you that is one bad truck the pic I added is old but oh well

Congrats on taking that first drive. Every time someone makes it that far it give hope and encouragement to those of us that aren't even sure where all of our parts are at.

Sweet looking truck, I had the same feeling the night My uncle gave me my truck, had the same perma-grin the whole ride home. The best part was the look on peoples faces when they heard the diesel growling under the hood.

keep up the encouragement, there are a lot of out here in the baby stage of the resto. I love the color of your truck! thanks for adding that it was an 'old' picture, I was wondering what kind of bugs you (would) have caught in your teeth :-)

I like the color too. Is it an original Chevy color? Looks like my '69's original color called dark yellow.

thanks guys

Im not sure of the name of the color it is actuall a bit lighter when its outside. under the shop lights it is a bit darker. I actuall have the windows in now but when they were out I still drove it to get the mail and whatnot. By the way I drove the 72 to school back and fourth around town and only used 1/8 tank of gas which I thought was resonable. Anyways thats about it!!!!

By the way I got a compliment from an old man today of course it was the same story " I have a '69 that I need to start working on. sometimes I wonder about the I need to start working on mine people. I found that sometimes you just need to nut up and dig into something. The money and knowledge will follow

basketcase, you know where all your parts are? Huh, I used to know, but now I'm not so sure.... They must be in my garage somewhere, right? Great truck man. I will hope to drive mine again someday.

If you want to smooth that ride out>>> I put a set of Edelbrock IAS Preformer shocks (about $65 each) that were made for the 1973 and up 3/4 ton 4x4s on my truck. My truck is a 71 GMC 3/4 ton 4x4. It rides so smooth and makes the truck handle great.. By far the greatest improvement I have made on the ride and handeling issue on this 4x4. I did have to have the rear mounts widened on the top mounts about 1/2" to accommodate the larger shock support but it was well worth the comfort. I have road in trucks with Ranchos and lifts with other suspensions and they are no comparison to the smooth ride of the Edelbrocks with the stock suspension. I was thinking of putting a 2.5" full suspension lift on and leaving the Edelbrocks on as we had to slightly compress the shocks over factory compression when installing them. When the truck is all done with cab mount cab supports and everything I bet your ride would be extremely smooth!
