Fuel filler revisited - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

I know we've posted dozens of fuel filler topics but I found one I hadn't seen yet.It is wayyyy toooo pricy for me and probably for most of you also.I however seem to look at things from a more or less street rod perspective.In doing so I tend to take an Idea and tailor it to a specific purpose.
Go to www.legenshotrod.com and look under products, then scroll down.They have a fuel filler that is under the bed and one of the boards of the bed flips up to access the fuel filler.
I though this might be a great set-up for some of the guys looking for something different but at $449.00 I knew it was not practical for most of us so,I did some thinking.
Hinges could be made or maybe sourced from a Home Depot as could some push to release latches.But if you were going to go to the trouble of doing something this trick why not make it even better.Design it so 2-3 boards flip together and put a boxed in storage space for tools,detailing supplies,or maybe a jack and lugwrench.
Don't get me wrong the kit looks like a really neat item and it is electrically opened so it would be a really nice detail for a show truck but my fellow BB members tend to build more user freindly and practical in the trucks they build.
Anybody have any thoughts or anything I would like to hear them.I mostly posted this so we could kind of kick it around and maybe come up with solutions for some of the guys putting rear tanks in.

Could you cut and hinge a steel floor and not make it so obvious? I'm thinkin' about a 16 gal. cell or have one made. Does anyone know how far a cell hangs down? I think a cell would be the cheapest route for me. Any thoughts? Thanks

for the steel floor you could scoot it up and then do it to make it look as if you have a goosneck ball under it or something
