mutt_1986 build page * 5.3 swap into 72 c10

Hey everyone, been a member for years but haven't been very active. Thought I would make build page for those of you interested. I will start with a little back story; I've owned my 72 since I was 14. My dad and I bought it from a local junk yard. My truck has went through many changes through the years , some good some bad . Its been a great learning experience for me. When I graduated high school I spent all my graduation money and built a radical 355 for it to replace the very dependable 305 the truck already had. I really regret doing it because while this engine sounds great and is hella fast. The drivability sucks, fuel mileage sucks, plus I can't keep a transmission in it. Needless to say it hasn't been driven much since. So I've been pondering what to do for a long time, I knew if I replaced another transmission is was going to be a 4 speed because 3 speed is for the birds. So I looked at what a decent trans built to handle my engine was going to cost. after giving it much thought and researching other builds I decided to do a 5.3/4l60e swap. Everyone that has done an is swap say its the best thing they have ever done. Can't wait to have the driveability/ reliability/ mileage that the 5.3 has to offer. Here is a quick pic of how my truck currently sits vrs how I want it to look in the end.

Update on whats going on with my swap, have been mostly collecting parts needed to do this since the weather has been bad here in Arkansas. All I believe I lack is a wiring harness, something to adapt shifter and an Efi fuel tank. Sent fuelcellguy a pm about a month ago in hopes to get one of his tanks. So in the meantime I got some gauges. Used AutoMeters up top and Equus down low

I have been really thinking about a 5.3 also. Was debating on a BB, just for fun. But, the price of gas has gone up again with the long weekend. Crooks. My 350 needs to be rebuild at minimum. So an update seems like a pretty good idea.

Yea, I've just reached the point where I'm tired of messing with the old SBC/3 speed setups. I want to be able to jump in this truck and drive anywhere and be practical.
