Re: windshield help

I assume that you don't have it in the truck already, right?

The trim goes in the rubber before the rubber goes into the opening....as I've read/been told. I don't think it's possible to get the trim into the rubber after the rubber is installed into the body.

Oh, welcome to the board from central Arkansas. I've seen some nice looking vehicles in Longview, too. Hope you enjoy the "board".

Re: windshield help

Make sure the chrome is not bent before installing it. You have to "feed' the chrome in by pushing down on it and pulling the outside part of the seal. Lubing the seal helps, but you will want something that does not dry too fast but can be washed off. We put the small corners in last after the rest of the chrome is installed. Installing the chrome can be frustrating as it will slip out a lot easier then it goes in.

Once the chrome is on the seal, the assembly can be installed using a 3/16" diameter rope and copious amounts of lube on the seal and the windshield frame. Small ropes or strings can cut the rubber easily, larger ropes will take up too much room.

We start with the bottom but some guys start with the top.A good helper makes the job easier.

Re: windshield help

I was looking in my '69 shop manual and all I found was a very short note about the replacement of the windshield with the deluxe trim, which said to remove the windshield first, then the trim.

I don't know if you are putting the trim into the rubber before you put it on the glass or not, but from what I have understood, the rubber goes on the glass, then the trim goes into the slot.

Re: windshield help

We put the seal on the windshield first so as to hold the seal in some kind of shape.

Re: windshield help

There is 2 types of trim;one needs a rubber with a deeper groove. One style goes above the glass, one below; the difference is the year and soooo many people don't know this(I found out the hard way-trim jumped off and scratched the hood)
