Re: shift knobs
I’ve collected shift knobs off and on since before I could drive starting with a solid chrome Cal Custom version back in the early 60’s. Our GMC has had quite a few over the years. Here are some of them:
Original stock: Silver Lokar knob on the long stick: Black anodized Lokar knob: Black Gennie on short stick: Red Enco industrial tool knob on short Gennie stick (the knob cost about $2.00) and came in black or red (I bought and used both): White Hurst knob: (after Richmond 4 speed installation): My son’s red metalflake knob: The current and now permanent knob. This is a blue metalflake knob, I believe is sold by Gennie Shifter: And here are a couple that didn’t last enough to be photographed in the truck. This was a custom made pearl blue knob. It was gorgeous in real life, but was out of round and undersized which annoyed me: And I had Kool Knobs make this one. My camera at the time couldn’t capture the red color so it looks bleached out. It was vivid and beautiful in real life. My youngest son has it now: |

Re: shift knobs
Here is my home-made camshaft shift knob. Needs to be cleaned, painted, polished, and clear coated, but you get the idea. The lobes actually fit pretty well in my hands, and I've always prefered the T-handle style. It is a bit heavy to use on a manual stick, but works well with the B&M Megashifters I use.

Re: shift knobs
Mine had some cheap plastic skull when I bought it, that pulled off and got thrown out the window.
Next was a knob from the 4wd selector of a 90's Chevy (free, alum inside was easy to re thread) Finally I made an adapter for the 8 ball shifter. I have a junk floor shifter (mr gasket?) that is a unusual thread. I made an adapter with by drilling and threading a piece of brass rod about 2" long. One end is the threads on the shifter and other is 'common' (Hurst) threads. A short stud attaches that to the knob. |
