does anybody have an pics of the factory setup inside the cab for cruise control? also looking for pics of the setup on the engine side as well.sorry looking for 1972 setup, chevy or gmc. i guess it would be the same. it seems that this is the rarest option to find on these trucks. there is not much info out there in reguards to it.

The 72 unit is all mounted under the dash, like an add on unit, don't know why they did that, 69 - 71 had it in the turn signal lever, but for 72 only it was under dash. I think there has been a few pop up on e-bay from time to time, and I think some one on here (maybe Rod) found an NOS one not too long ago. I'll try to post some pics of my stock cruise components, but my computer is acting up again and I'm not sure I can post...

hey longhorn man thanks for the info! sounds like they forgot to include it in the plans for the 72 and as a last min. fix they just threw it in! maybe they were looking to change the setup for that year but figured they would wait until 73 for the big changes

Just as I figured, my coal burning POS computer isn't up to the task. The interesting part is, the 73 should have pretty much the same compnents for the cruise, but I believe it was back in the turn signal switch.

The only thing I can think of is GM wanted to get rid of all the dealer installed units that were not getting sold, so they started selling them as OE parts in 72. This is just speculation, but it makes more sence than some of the stories I have heard.

My 71 super has cruise and as I understood it, the cruise was a dealer add on. The information in the build manual only states for 69-70. The accessories manual shows 71 with turn signal operated and the 72 as slide ever operated, mounted at the bottom of the dash. Pieces are hard to find, When I got mine all that was left was the lever, wiring ( remnants) and holes in the driver's fender well. Roger Koop (Koop's truck parts) did have some stuff- NOS but expensive, and he is where I got the servo, vacumn pot and a new wiring harness from. He is located in OKlahoma -I think, or you might try hemmings motor news..... Just a thought

You are right about the 1972 being under the dash. It should be black. A single button with the word "CRUISE MASTER" under it. The story I had heard years ago was that GM did it to get around the warranty. They had problems with the factory units, so they went to a dealer installed unit in 72 to get around the factory warranty. I do have a unit I removed from a truck. If no one posts a picture of the button, I will dig it out and get one. Hopefully someone will, because I know my unit is really buried deep in some box. By the way, there have been some buttons sold on ebay claiming to be for our trucks that don't look right. Our trucks should have the words "CRUISE MASTER" UNDER the button. If it is BESIDE the button, that is for cars not trucks. Just my 2 cents.

wow, that is alot more information on factory cruise controls than i thought was out there! it almost seems that even the smallest parts seem to have a story or history with them. i am still hopeing for some pics thought. thanks to all that have answered!

I couldn't find it in the 67 books I have either...only in a el-camino it seems for 67. My 67 data book is a first revision of Nov 1966....My 68 books showed the cruise option.

So if thats true, then one of the cruise control units pictured by huggercst is actually a car cruise? and the other is a truck cruise?

Here's mine. Be careful if you buy one and make sure it is complete (most aren't. I leared the hard way!). The hardest items to find are pictured in my 3rd, 4th and 5th attachments. (this is a 72 set-up)
pic 3: connects cruise cable to carb.
pic 4: brake vacuum release bracket.
pic 5: holds cruise cable to back of carb. attaches to existing bracket.
