68 C10 Front Drop Not Dropped 😃
Hey All, new to the forum. I'm looking for some help regarding lowering the front end of my 68 C10 pickup. It currently has a 250 inline 6. I purchased a CPP front big disc conversion kit, with 2 inch drop spindles, and a 1 inch drop coil spring. The stock ride height from ground to Fender lip was approximately 31 in. After the installation of the spindles and coils, I dropped it off the track jack stands and it now sits just under 30 in. So a net 1 inch drop when it should have been closer to 3. One thing I thought of, was that CPP did not ask me which engine I was running. I read that the six cylinder, 250, weighs approximately 440 lb. The big block that I'm installing, is closer to 600 pounds. Is it possible that they gave me big block Springs, and that's why it's Ridng high currently? PS This has not been on the road yet to settle in, which may be another Factor, not sure. Any help is appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Drop spindles are springs are measured from the factory height. Meaning if your stock springs you had were new, you would have had 3 inches of drop. So, I'm going to guess the springs you took out were original and have sagged a couple inches over the last 50 years?

Thanks! Just bought the truck 3 months ago, but it was virtually all original. Your suggestion is likely the case. So i need to go with a bigger drop then like a 3" to get the added 2 in drop I'm trying to achieve.

That's just my thoughts. I'm sure someone else will chime in here as well. I would hold off on dropping it anymore until you drive it a little and see how it settles in. The weight difference of current vs BBC would be easy to replicate to see if it makes much of a difference. Good luck! |

If you just dropped it down off the jack stands without rolling it forward it will sit up higher. The tires touch the ground before the A arms flatten out and this holds the suspension up. Roll it forward a bit.

drive it some and then see if it settles. Also, as others said, the big block will definitely lower it some, and yes, the stock springs could easily have settled some over the years.

Clip a coil from your stock spring.
