The Old Duffer

Thought I'd start a build thread. Been making a bunch of progress & this is a great way to catalog the process.
Here's a pic the day I dragged it outta the barn it had been parked in for the last 20 years or so.

Re: The Old Duffer

Blew out all the fuel lines, rebuilt the carb & got the motor running smooth again. Did a little rattle can cleanup of the engine compartment. Just a temporary fix as the tired old 250 will be coming out & a fresh built 250 will be going in.

Re: The Old Duffer

The interior wasn't in too bad of condition but was definitely time for a good cleaning & refresh. So we gave the inside of the cab a fresh coat of the the original fawn. here's a before & afters.

Re: The Old Duffer

The White paint my grandpa had laid on 25 years ago was still in really good shape after some cleaning & clay barring so it was left alone. I decided to go with a metallic baby blue for the stripe & wheels instead of the red. Also went with some Wheel Vintique smoothies & Coker Classic wide whites & shaved the old farm truck mirrors, Antenna & Spotlight Also removed the old ranch rear bumper. All the chrome siding needed replacing as it was dented all to hell. Here's a quick before and after.

Yeah it was really solid. My grandpa loved the truck & was always careful to keep it garaged.

Re: The Old Duffer

The old tank had to go so we shaved the fuel filler & went with a 15 & 1/2 gallon 1961 schlitz keg in the bed

Re: The Old Duffer

The old 3 speed was just not cutting it so a T5 was procured & installed. Also bought a retro sun Tach & temporally put it under the dash but will eventually pull the gauge cluster & install it in the stock location as well as refurb the rest of the gauges.

Re: The Old Duffer

I'm debating on what to do with the bed. sadly a really cheap rattle can bed liner was sprayed in the bed. I've been looking into how to remove it & it looks like it'd be a huge hassle. so my thought is to pull the wood & strips & linex the bed in white linex or Fawn like the interior. the original wood is in pretty good shape but covered in the same crappy rattle can bed liner so I'm going to have that sand blasted then figure out what type of treatment to put on to preserve the wood. I stole these pics from another post where someone did the fawn bed liner & I think it looks pretty cool.

I appreciate that. It's been a looooong build. close to 8 years in. Started with basically a tub & now it's getting pretty nice.

Thanks Coulter, My Grandpa laid that paint over twenty years ago & it's still nice. Not perfect but the fact he did it makes me want to keep it.

Thanks Man, I really love the blue. It looks way better in person than I've been able to catch with a camera.

Re: The Old Duffer

I've been working on putting some tunes in The Old Duffer, I've built a little setup to fill the space behind the tank & hold the sub enclosure in place & give me a place to mount the crossovers. I also am going to use this space to store a small amount of tools a fire extinguisher & a couple quarts of oil. I plan on Upholstering this area with the same semi metallic Vinyl that is on the stock bench. I Got a Kicker 10 in their truck box & it pounds pretty hard. Up front I have Kickers 6 & a half inch separates in the kick panels. everything is temporarily mocked in place while I figure out how best to mount them with out drilling holes in the sheet metal. Also Kicker has this killer little I-pod controller that works without any head unit which is exactly what I wanted. I don't want to cut my dash & I want the interior to look pretty close to stock & I don't care about CD's or the radio. Just hook up my iPhone & go. it has a remote that I just tuck under the seat & the only thing that looks modern are the kick panels but they'll be painted the same fawn as the rest of the interior.
