New to me '60 Long Bed
Figured I should introduce my self in here, since I see myself spending most of my time in this section.
Just closed the deal on a 60 C10. My First old truck even though I have been looking for a while. stars and dollars finally aligned. Planning a resto mod on it, only upgrades to drive-ability as needed. Not going for Super Speed or Show, just functional as it will be driven and used. Runs and drives now. looks like older restoration, just needs some love. Been looking through Forum for ideas and trouble spots to look for, will be asking plenty of questions as things progress. Re: New to me '60 Long Bed
Great looking truck and nice to see a 1960 model, we don't see tons of them.
Does it still retain the original v8?

Unfortunately gonna be a couple weeks till I can get it home to really go through it. I usually hate chrome but already looking for some baby moons to get rid of the wheels that are on it. Hooligan |

Re: New to me '60 Long Bed
It would be a 283 actually.
I thought the same thing (that it was a 327) when I bought my '62 with it's original engine in it. Very cool looking truck you have there by the way...been a long time since I've seen turbine wheels like that too! |

Re: New to me '60 Long Bed
I was thinking same thing about engine. This the only pic I have of it at the moment. Asked PO about it and he wasn't 100% sure what it was either. He said I think it is a 327 But could be 283 they look pretty much the same. I just assumed I am gonna have to figure it all out when I get it home. Since I don't know too much about these engines either..... yet. Hooligan |

Re: New to me '60 Long Bed
FYI, 327 wasn't available from factory until 1966 in half ton.

Re: New to me '60 Long Bed
Thanks Clyde65. Good to know.
I am learning this as I go. Have a P.O.S. Degree in Auto Mechanics from keeping my stuff running, and a love for Old trucks of all Makes. Was actually looking for a 50s Pickup when Stumbled on this Chevy and fell in love. I have never paid much attention to these models but there is something about the big snout front end!! All I know about these is from about a week of google and forum reading.... so Not much. Hooligan |

Congrats on a great score on a nice looking truck. I didn't know there was a town in L.A. named after my family lol.

Re: New to me '60 Long Bed
Other than obviously a Shop Manual
What Manuals / books do you recommend I get to go with the truck, and where to get them? Looking for Info from repairs and restoration to upgrades and Performance. Computers and Google are good. I love the info I can get from y'all on here, but.... I'm a Ink and paper type of guy, Learn and understand better when I can put my hands on the info.. Literally. I'd have never finished school if there were as many computers then as there are now!! |

Green Hornet is Home!!
Got truck home this weekend and All i have to say is Wow!! I forgot how much fun these old trucks are to drive.
Kids and wife named it before we even got all papers signed. His official name is "The Green Hornet" although she doesn't like it when i call it my Horny Chevy I did figure out a few more details on it. It does NOT have original motor. from searching numbers on the block it is a 327 built in 62. has 4 speed with borg warner overdrive that is not hooked up. (definitely going to look into this) A couple rust spots in bottom of doors and hood, not too bad but needs attention. Still has some of original bed wood, under a layer of plywood and a rubber mat. Door windows will pop out of track if you close the doors too hard with them rolled down (of course i discover this in the rain) |
