Re: strange sound

Have you checked all your U-joints on the front driveshaft and the axle joints?

Re: strange sound

i would pull the cover and take the front off the ground so that you can actually rotate the wheels by hand with the diff open..
also you can spin the input shaft (front) by hand with the truck in neutral (to disengage the tranny from the loop, and prefferably with the rear tires off the ground also) to completely isolate the "noise"
just my 2 cents... that's what i did to isolate wether or not i shattered my last axle or destroyed my x-fer case..
then the second axle i destroyed i saw and heard the front u joint fly out the front of the truck and dissapear into mud..

good luck.. and be patient... "troubleshooting" is where you will truly learn your truck..

Re: strange sound

no dude the tire width will not make a difference it is the tire height that will f-things up
ya gotta get the truck off the ground (in my opinion) to figgure out where the noise is originating from...
good luck

Re: strange sound

your truck should not have enough lift to cause .. i would check the cross over for your exhaust that is a common mistake there..
by cross over i mean where the pipes go under your tranny etc....

Re: strange sound

no dude it's the cross over..
do you have true duals..?
or do you have both exhaust manifolds going into one pipe then with a dual pipe exiting? (this one is more common of the two set ups)

he he he ...
well f your front axle or any axle is hitting anywhere you are going to have a "ring" cut into that axle...
have you pulled your differential covers yet?....
because a bag of rocks.. or a hand fll of dice.. to me.. sounds like issues in the diff..

Re: strange sound

you should be able to grab the driveshaft near the ujoint and push to each side of the joint with no movement. I just had a similar problem myself with front drive shaft. My Driveshaft has 3 ujoints, a centering yoke an "H" yoke and weld yoke (which is closest to the main length of the shaft). Might be worth pulling the front driveline to see if everything is ok. My problem was in my centering yoke/"H"yoke.

Re: strange sound

wiggle it dude.. gotta chec and see if they wiggle too much.. then they should be the "cap style" with two bolts and a strap for the "caps" to attach them to the pinion gear (front diff)
dont be scared to grab it and man handle it.. jsut dont hit it with anything because a dent or damage can cause a throw off in the balance..
but dude.. i would start from scratch and lift all 4 tires off the ground and then spin everything while the x-fer case is engaged and the trans is in neutral...
that way you can tell where the noise is coming from..

and suspension can take a "noise" and move it frrom the axle to below your but because it's all bolted together...
