Easy remove tailgate
This has probably been on here but I just figured it out. The right side hing on a '73 to '81 (I belive those or the years to use) will bolt right up. So then all you would have to do is trim the metal a little on the bottom of your tailgate on the right side and your gate will pull right off at a 45' angle.

its not hard to do, i did it on mine. i used a hinge from a 78, but they are the same from 73-87. the hinges are not the same height, so i had to put in the top bolt only, and tighten it really tight. then i took an air cut off wheel, cut 2 slits from outside to very bottem of the trunion hole, then cut across, keep trying the gate on the truck, grinding out metal as needed, untill it slips on easy.
i also did this when i put a 76 ford tailgate on an 85 ford

How often do you remove your gate?
Personally, i prefer the set up where tools are needed and it is not a quick release...I knew some kids in high school that would grab tail gates off newer trucks and sell them...pure profit. |

It's a catastrophic success.

Then theres the trick of putting a hose clamp over the hinge so at least the thief has to carry a screwdriver with him to steal your gate.
