road trip with a carbureted LS1..pics

I'm about to hit the road in my '73, driving from socal to Tennessee for the Relaxed Atmosphere show in Millington. Heading to Phoenix to get the brakes worked on,then to Texas to get the body fixed up. By the time I get to the show the truck should look and work alot better.

here's some pics of the truck the day i bought it:

and after a few months of workin on it:

So far the carb has been good. It doesn't have a choke so it takes about 15 seconds to idle on its own first thing in the morning. Other than that I've been happy with it. Have only put about 300 miles on it so far and I've been haulin' ass in it the whole time having fun so I dont have any mileage figures yet. It's a 5-6 hour drive to Phoenix so by Friday I'll have some mileage figures on it.

The seats came out of a 2002 Dodge Ram. I cut four inches out of the brackets and welded them back together. I dig them because the center console is huge and the seats seem comfy.

I remember watching a carbed LS1 on HorsePowerTV, its made some serious power. Truck looks great after only a few months, thats dedication.

What kind of rims are those?

its a universal kit from Spectre Performance. its plumbed into the factory knock outs in the core support. comes in black, silver and chrome.

it was worth about 8hp on the chassis dyno versus a K&N open element air cleaner

wow, that's a good gain over an open element K&N.

Ill keep up on this thread and on the sporttruck website, this is a very cool project. I remember a few months back this was on the cover with an LS series V8 going in and a rather attractive female posing as if she were working on it. I think it was also in the issue with a tech article about swaping the front clip. It's a very cool truck, im glad to see you made it over here

Keep us posted.

Re: road trip with a carbureted LS1..pics

I followed the updates in every issue of ST i get but sometimes i think the magazin doesn´t get here!
However i hope you have a nice trip and some cool updates for us here.
Btw what is the the advantage of putting a carb on an engine that has fuelinjection normally?
And i´m also curious about the gas mileage you´re making!

Nice truck.

Do you have any more detailed pictures of the seat install? I like the Dodge seats too. My dad's 2000 has the seatbelts built into the seat. Earlier models have the cab corner seats. I may find some to install in my truck. I have some black seat belts ready to install!!

Very cool Mike, I have some buddy going out to that show, from Knoxville TN. But I can not make it. They are taking my trailer down to the show, so if you see one with Hunters custom on it that's it..

Have a safe trip and the truck looks very cool!
