Lug pattern adapter and spacer help

I converted my truck to 5 lug and I was wondering if I could get some advice on lug patterns and what spacer/adapter I could use.
A friend has some firebird rims that he will give to me with good tires.
Now I know I should redrill the lug pattern or buy new axles and rotors but let me just say that all I am trying to do is put some good tires on a truck that has been sitting for a long time b/c I just want to drive it from time to time... No reason to let it just sit in the yard and go to waist b/c I do not have the money to do it right???

Thanks,
Richard

Re: Lug pattern adapter and spacer help

you should be able to get rims from 73-87 trucks with the 5 on 5 lug pattern for about 10 bucks a rim or cheaper from the junkyard. I think you would spend more than that on adapters. Have you checked craigslist for some cheap rims in the 5 x5 lug pattern? there are also some full size cars with 5 x 5 pattern as well.....

Re: Lug pattern adapter and spacer help

It would be cheaper to find a used set of rims and tires on CL or Ebay. I have bought many sets for well under $100. Might not be pretty but will work.

Re: Lug pattern adapter and spacer help

Nothing would make me happier that to get my hands on some rallys to put on it... I would probably stick with them. I have been keeping my eyes peeled but every secenrio I find usually ends up with me having to buy tires. (truck is lowered)
I knew when I started this tread I would sound cheep. I want to spend 100 or 200 for now. B/c I know later down the road I will be rebuilding the truck again.

Here is the story behind my truck if you want to see... I have had this thing for a long time.

Re: Lug pattern adapter and spacer help

It's "cheap" Cheep is from birds. Years ago I had a friend stop by the house laughing because I had painted "for sale Cheep" on the side of a car I had for sale minus engine at my house.

Craigslist, yard sales and flea markets are good places to look for a set of decent used tires. Also take offs at the local tire stores. A lot of new truck buyers go straight to the tire store and put on mags and new tires the first week they buy the truck and quite often you can work a deal with the guys at the tire store for the take offs. Same with the Rally rims, sometimes you can pick up a set that they took off at the tire store and stuck in the back room.
The firebird tires will probably be too small for the truck and changing the lugs to match the wheels or buying decent adapters would cost more than a set of used wheels. They might be trading material though that you can trade for something else.

Re: Lug pattern adapter and spacer help

heres a thought, are the firebird rims 14 or 15... if they are 15's put those tires on the 5x5 rims, and utilize that setup until you can get the permanent setup you want.

I think he said they are 18" and 16" I guess they use difernet size rims on newer firebirds. They were probably takeoffs like mr48 said...
