73 - 87 Torque Arm breakage

Has anyone experienced the torque arm (I think that's what it's called) that runs from the bell housing to the transfer case breaking? I've never had one that I put together break, but just bought an '87 driveable project and that arm broke on the highway. My theory has always been to bolt the arm up loosely, then tighten the bell housing bolt first, then the 2 transfer case bolts. That order should keep the arm from being pre loaded.

I have an idea for a beefier fabricated torque arm. Has anyone seen a "hot setup" for these?

Got a pic?
What are you working on?

Got me confused, but Chevy did change a few things over the years...
There are some very sharp folks that I'm sure could help you out.

I'm kinda like duct tape- no real purpose, but handy to have around.
