Custom Center Console...What to put in it?

I just got done building a custom center console for my 72' to go between a set of Honda Bucket seats and I'm trying to firure out what to mount in it before I begin carpeting it. I already want mount my Airbag Switches in it...but what else? Maybe a set of cup holders, Ratchet Shifter? Any ideas or where to get cup holders at for cheap?

Any suggestions would be great, I'll post pics when its done.

Kenny

Kenny, someone on here used pencil holders for cupholders. I think they got them from Target, but I looked once and didn't find them. I've got a picture somewhere, but it'll be several days before I'm back at my own computer.

You can have a flower holder like on a VW bug. Someone on this board put some speakers in the bottom

It might look good to take two a/c balls and a center vent unit out of an a/c truck. Figure out some way to mount the center vent housing onto the bottom of the heater outlet, and run some duct work to the a/c balls. Mount the a/c balls on the sides of your console. I thought about doing this, but i have an a/c truck so ill just run the air through the a/c outlets all the time, and i wont have to worry about that.

How about a CD player in a hidden compartment with a lid? I ve always wanted to do this but i'd like to keep my bench seat. Another thing- you could find a small 6 can cooler and put it in there to keep your beverage of choice cool.

Hello everyone, new guy here. This is off of the subject, but do you know where to get the seat covers that are in the pictures Dubie posted? I could use them on my blazer. Any body have front pictures of them?

I built a custom console for my 66 Chevelle about 10 years ago and I put 3 guages in the top then a cd player below it. Then I took a pop (beer) can and traced a circle on the wood then cut them out. I am also building 1 for my 72 which I will do the same and put speakers in the side of it as well.

Costco had some that were neoprene Wet Oklie knock-offs. I've got them on my daily driver. I think they were $18 for the pair. They've been on for over a year and are holding up well. Wet Oklie's are like $99. There are several other companies that make neoprene seat covers too. JCWhittney carries come or you coul do a google search.

I put some cup holders in mine. Got them from a conversion van company. Also included in mine is an amp, 10" sub, and rachet shifter. I originally was going to put a tranny temp guage on the flat panel below the a/c controls, but haven't yet. I've also thougth about putting a 10 disc changer there or a bling bling LCD screen

i want to build one of these! they look great imo! i want a ratchet shifter or one that goes thru the floor sincei already have a hole in the floor. for the lower heater vent i would run ducting to the sides of the console from the vent. maybe when i get buckets i can put some in!

Could you make a console out of sheet metal and maybe some small round or square tubing to brace it? I want one that will run from the lip right below the rear window to the bottom of the dash with a big curve in it.

Found this console on e-bay. (http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...tem=2451535077). It would be great, especially for a Blazer or Burb.

cupholders

Don't laugh because it has worked quite well. I built mine using black plastic flower pots from Home Depot. I wanted bigger cup holders that would hold a larger drink. I put a support below them and they flush mount with the top. Works great and you can't tell that they are flow pots.

I actually finished my console up the other nite, yet to get pictures though. I ended up mounting some rocker switches for my bags' and found a couple pencil holders to use as cup-holders at th elocal Office-Max store. The carpet was from Walmart. Cost me about $20 to amke (crarpet, switches cup-holders) I used wood from around the house. I'll post some pics when I get the chance but I don't feel like goin out in the 20 degree weather we're having

What type of fabrication did you have to do to put in the honda seats? Are those the best seats to use?

I didn't do anything with the floor vent yet. I thought about cuting holes in the lower part of it and putting some sort of defuser on it, but haven't gotten to it. It doesn't seal up against the heater box anyways, so the hot air escapes from where ever. My truck isn't my daily driver so being cold for awhile isn't a big concern for me.

Oh, I don't have a picture of it, but the console also covers the gas tank. Pretty cool I think. Kinda looks like the "waterfall" out of a C5 corvette convertable.
